This is the newest canned beer from NoDa. I hope they keep expanding. Honestly this one is the best of the bunch so far. I know Hop Drop gets a lot of praise but this one does more for me.

Appearance: Chocolate colored some transparency, but not clear by any stretch. Decent amount of head remains as you progress through the glass.

Aroma: Not as much chocolate as you would expect or coconut for that matter. Sweet almost floral aroma dominates.

Taste: Tropical, the name is aptly named. You get chocolate malts but you also taste the mild yet pleasant amount of pina colada flavors. Coconut is right there, but it hits you on the back of the tongue. Very well done here.

Overall: The best coconut porter I have had. The only one I have actually tasted the coconut in the beer. Nice addition to the canned lineup for NoDa. Honestly I hope this becomes a mainstay, if not take away CAVU and make this one, a mainstay!

16oz. can poured into a porter glass

A- a very dark brown, some translucence on the edges with some ruby hues. A think light tan head with little lacing.

S- Big on bittersweet chocolate, with some coffee, and brown malt notes. A hint of coconut.

T- Very forward on the bittersweet chocolate and brown malts. A significant coffee bitterness. You need to search for the coconut, but it's there mid sip through the end. The dark chocolate/coffee bitterness unfortunately drowns the coconut a bit.

M- rather thick for a porter, and light to medium carbonation.

O- It's quite good, I'd like to have the coffee/chocolate bitterness backed of a bit to let the coconut shine through a bit more.
