Man, friends down in North CANolina sent me this CAN to further The CANQuest (TM), but the chick on the label looks unCANnily like my ex-Old Lady and it's kinda freakin' me out.
From the CAN: "Proudly Brewed & C[AN]ned by NoDa Brewing Company, Charlotte, NC."; "Recycle, Reduce, Reuse."; "Prepare to get your Jam on! Our sessionable pale ale offers you amazing hop and malt character without sacrificing drinkability. The combination of English and Ameri[CAN] malts balance bright hop notes from Centennial, Simcoe and Amarillo, all without wrecking your palate."
I disagree with calling any beer = or > 5.0 % ABV "sessionable", but that is a debate for a different venue.
I could not wait to Crack! this open and see what lay in wait for me. I had been cautioned to employ a gentle Glug and so I did, but I still got a finger of foamy, tawny head with decent retention. Color was a deep-amber (SRM = > 13, < 17), approaching copper and with NE-quality clarity. No wonder they chose this broad t be the model - her hair color nearly matched the beer's! The nose was really earthy - grassy, minty, some toasted malt notes, all adding up to the scent of a meadow in the late-spring/early-summer. Mouthfeel was on the thin side and the taste was more tea-like than anything else. If you have never made hops tea, it is very mellow and relaxing and this was quite reminiscent of its flavor. It was kind of a blend of grassiness and mintiness, but very mellow. All of a sudden, I was feeling sleepy. Finish was semi-dry, refreshing, but not sustaining for a self-avowed hophead such as myself. Not bad, per se, but lacking a certain Oomph that would get me to make a return trip.

Poured from a 16oz can into an imperial pint glass a clear deep golden with a full one finger white head atop that lasted for the duration.Aromas of Amarillo hops abound, leafy, with some sweet onion and aspirin, wich I tend to like, caramel malts show thru more as I drink more.Hops dominate the palate up front with leafy and grassy notes dominating, the aspirin notes also come into play,a biscuity maltiness holds true to the finish but the hops are the show.I really like this pale, the hop profile is fantastic and the alcohol is low so I can drink the four pack without a problem.Solid.

Amber gold, crispy clear color with a nice lacy white head. Aroma is bright, fruity, and happy. Cereal grains, citrus, tropical, grassy hop. Taste is refreshing and pleasantly hoppy. This is a very easy to enjoy beer. Flavors are flowery peach, apricot, apple, pine cones, grapefruit zest, all mixed really well together. Finishes with brisk carbonation and tingly hop dryness.

Quite dark for a "session pale" - very bready with notes of spiced dough and rye. Rather dull hop profile and lacking characteristics I would like to see in a 'session'. One of these was enough - not a beer to revisit in the future.
