well, after all the stuff I heard from this place, we had to check it out ourselves... living in Bruges, it's too close not to, and being in to beer, it would be a shame to not visit a great beerrestaurant near your hometome.
so we went. 2 guys really in to beer, and 2 girls really in to anything that's tasty. The result? One of, if not the best dinner experience any of us had ever, with an amazing match between the food and the beer, the pairing was exquisit!
Fresh seafood, shrimps made at 3 different ways, 3 pieces of bread, each made with a different trappist (orval, westmalle & rochefort) a great white fish for dinner and the finishing chocolat touch was unforgettable.
Beers, you may ask? First up was the Vin de Cereal by Rodenbach, 2004, excellent, then a housebeer, 10 % blond with hopbells in it, very suiting, and a chimay grand reserve. Those were great compagnons of the already unbelievable meal...
well, we had to conclude, this was a must revisit asap! So somewhere in november they can expect us back, rather sooner then later!
great, great job!

I had such a wonderful Meal here and a fantastic time in general. Went for lunch so the sun was out and we were eating outside. Chris was a fantastic host, and treated us like old friends. the food was excellently prepared by his wife and as lunch was only 25 Euro for 5 courses and some wonderful beers that were all so thoughtfully paired with each course. After the meal Chris took us around town and bought rounds. A fantastic time, great guy and perfect afternoon.
I can only reiterate that this is NOT a beer bar. If you go plan on having a very nice meal paired with beers. We chose to have the set meal and I can't imagine a better choice to be made. I would really love to go back.

This restaurant is a truly great Gastro-pub. I had met Christophe the owner at the Night of Great Thirst (USA) and he mentioned his place so went I went to Belgium I figured that I should probably check it out. It exceeded my expectations.
I went here with 2 of my buddies on a recent trip to Belgium. We went for Lunch on a weekday afternoon. It was about a 15 minute train ride from Brugge and the restaurant is a 5 minute walk from the Oostend station.
The atmosphere was great. Located across the street from the water with a nice patio outside to eat.
There is a menu but we didn't even look at it. I had heard that the specialty of this place was the fixed menu with beer pairings so we went with that. We had 4 courses with 5 different beers for lunch. Each one was cooked with beer and paired with a beer. We had a Beef Tartar that was paired with a Cantillon Classic followed my a Lobster Capaccio with a Gueuze foam that was paired with Jan de Licte (Glazen Toren). We also had a wonderful piece of grilled Turbot. The bill was 25 Euro's per person. Quite a deal for the quality.
The seafood was insanely fresh. Christophe even brought us to his fish monger across the street after lunch.
I did feel the need to mark down the score a bit for selection. Honestly there are beer bars that have better beers. No whale hunting here. That being said. This place is not trying to be a beer bar. The focus is on the beer cuisine and pairings. That was absolutely spot on. If I could give a score of 6 for food it would deserve it.
If you love food and you love beer. This is the place for you.
***Note: I believe this place is reservation only. I e-mailed them directly from the website with no issues. A very English-friendly place.****
