750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Very deep amber. Quite dark for a barley wine. Medium khaki head.

Smell - Some bourbon. Vanilla. Equal dose of hops. Grapefruit.

Taste - Vanilla, bourbon is muted. Aggressively hopped, it seems. Slightly nutty malts. Bitter grapefruit.

Mouthfeel - Strong hop bitterness. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Too hopped to pair well with the barrel character.

I bought this 22oz bomber for 20$ at my local liquor store. Barrel aged beers always catch my attention and I decided to give this one a go.

Poured a dark red and brown with a small off white head that fell quickly but left a layer of bubbles and lacing that stuck to the side of the glass.

The smell is malt and bourbon up front, with dark fruits and leather throughout. Very pleasing smell, as a barrel aged beer should. Nothing sour or off about it, very clean. I could smell this from about 5 inches away, as it is quite strong. Very nice!

The taste is quite complex with a huge bourbon kick and a soft bitterness that lingers. Also there is plenty of sweet malt and fruit flavor, plum, some cherry, oak, leather, and hop zest.
I enjoyed the flavor slightly less than abacus but it is still a damn impressive beer.

Mouthfeel is perfect. I wouldn't want it thicker or thinner. It's slick without being overly thick, and coats the tongue with all the amazing flavor each sip. Very drinkable for being 12.6%.

I enjoyed this beer so much I cant help but put it up there with abacus and the like. Sucks that it is so limited though, I'm gonna buy 2 more and age them, recommended to anyone in the So Cal area that can find it.

Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at Tieman's tasting.

Pours a clear honey brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, caramel, citrus zest, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, wood, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of woody and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some great barrel aged aromas that don't come through as well in the taste.
