22oz bottle into a Ranger Creek tulip. Bottled 12/2011.
A thick pour (for the style) lends an impressive tuft of off-white head atop a hazy, orange body. Listless carbonation sends a few bubble trails to the surface. Galaxy dry-hop still has enough legs to lend the aroma a juicy, tropical fruitiness. Malts play off the hops well with sweet caramel and toffee aromas.
The flavor amps up the bitterness with a raw, leafy (near-medicinal) hop bite that hits mid-sip and lingers into the finish. Tropical fruits flash again to add just enough hop flavor to keep things manageable, and the malty, sweet booze exerts a decadent balance. Mouthfeel is chewy, almost sticky on the finish, and the carbonation could stand to be a bit higher. Overall, a tasty IPA that I'm glad to see on the Texas shelves...now if we could only get some fresher bottles, as I picked Flagraiser up the day it was released here only to find it was at least 3 months old...

Draught @ Noho Brewfest: This one pours a fairly clear, darker golden color. There was a good, dense off white head on it. There was a BIG pine hop nose. The taste was good. It wasn’t as bitter as the nose would make you think, but still has a good bite to it. Some malts in the background. Nice.

Fresh six packs (or four, can't remember) means time to review the Slumbrew staples.
A- 12oz bottle poured into a snifter with a hazy, dark orange-amber body. Small white head forms with a creamy-foamy texture and the height of about one finger. Foam dies down relatively quickly to a small bubbly ring at the edges. Thick ring of lace at the top with thinner webs drizzling down from there.
S- Aroma brings close to a half and half balance between hops and malts with hops getting just a slight edge. Hop notes of citrus zest, dried stone fruit like apricot, flowers and some pine. Caramel malt and cracked grain hints form a backdrop with some yeast hints.
T- As in the aroma, a balance of hops and the other key beer ingredients is struck. Hops shift slightly to more grapefruit, floral and pine notes with a hint of tropical fruit. Yeast seems to create some spice, raisin, apple and bread notes. The grains bring caramel, biscuit, cracked cereal grain and slight sweetness.
MF- Creamy overall texture with high end carbonation. Maybe the best part of the brew as the creaminess is quite pleasant. Finishes with a grassy hop bitterness lingering on the palate.
Malt and yeast flavors seem to counteract what good hop flavors are there. In a way it is more like an amber or Barleywine and the higher ABV here allows more yeast and malt flavors to arise. Still fairly pleasant and nothing totally off but not on par with other good IPAs around today.
