Poured into a standard pint glass.

Pours a very dark brown color with a quarter finger of off white head. There is some lace on the glass. Lots of chocolate and roast in the smell. The taste is smooth with some roast and smoke. There is a nice chocolate/cocoa note too. The finish is roasty but not overly bitter.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Jet black; creamy tan head w/ sticky lacing

SMELL: Cocoa powder, roasted coffee and dark malts; nutty

TASTE: Creamy, silky, sweet and tangy molasses, intense roastiness, astringent, coffee, chocolate, toffee, nutty, earth

Brewed with cocoa powder and freshly roasted cacao nibs from Taza Chocolate. Unfortunately, some of the nuances get lost amongst similar flavors provided by the Porter’s base ingredients, while roasted flavors from both meld and dominate the brew, especially as the beer warms. That said, a good brew.

The beer was a black color. The head was small and tan, which nevertheless left a fair amount of lace.

Lots of chocolate in the aroma, both cocoa and milk chocolate. Also a good deal of roasted malt.

The taste followed the aroma. Sweet chocolate and coffee. The taste of coffee really lingered. I also got just a hint of toffee.

Medium-bodied, good depth.

Fun beer to drink.

22oz brown bomber with a freshness date.

LOOK: A pretty brown, dark yet the light shines on the edges. Good lacing all around.

SMELL: Burnt raisins, bread crust, leather, chicory, cocoa powder, dark berries

TASTE: Sweetness upfront, smooth, creamy, medium body, cooked raisins, cocoa nibs, coffee, molasses, modest hopping, warming alcohol, hop bitterness, roasty, semi-astringent, pulling dryness nearly puckers

Love that they use Taza in this brew but I think the nibs really dig in deep and don't let go. It is a good brew all together but the astringent quality gets the better of it.

Had on tap at New World Tavern. Served into a pint glass

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, moderate carbonation, black in color, opaque

Smell: smoky roasted malt and chocolate

Taste: roasted malt, sweet and dark chocolate, a nice smokiness throughout

Mouthfeel: sweet with a slightly bitter backbone, moderate carbonation, medium bodied

Overall: I really liked this beer. This ranks right up there with Cape Cod as the best porter coming out of Massachusetts. The chocolate is a great mix of sweet and bitter. The smoke puts this one over the top. The best offering of what I have had from Slumbrew and certainly one to have again fresh.

Poured from 650 ml bottle into snifter

A - dark ruby color, small 1-finger head, long, heavy lacing.

S - Chocolate, coffee, malty flavors with a hint of floral aroma.

T - this is where this beer really ramps up. Along with the chocolate smells that transfer into the taste, I get a sweetness from some dark fruits ( a la a BDSA) that linger till the end. Strong coffee tastes show up as well but everything balances nicely.

M - really nice balance here. Light to medium-bodied with a hint of carbonation. That sweetness is a nice twist to this "porter" and it really surprised me.

O - started slow, but by the end I came away really impressed by this beer. Not sure how "porter" this beer is, but it was a really nice sipper. I would pick this one up again.

Reddish brown coloured body. Lacey. Roasty aroma. Meets the style with roast, chocolate malt, good malt, some coffee and postum. Some off flavours of mold which could be lactic acid. Reasonable drinkability. Mouthfeel a bit like cereal.Different, though nothing to write home about. Second bottle I tried was much better, fresh from Maine. Was getting much smoother with coffee and acid not prevalent, more chocolate.

S- chocolately. sweet. kinda like mexican chocolate. a little spicy.

T-very sweet. very chocolately. dark chocolate to be precise. aftertaste is somewhat like bakers chocolate. spice is like a nutmeg, perhaps.

m- thick, but not in an entirely bad way. doesnt finish very well however. too viscous.

o- its a good porter. flavors are good overall. biggest problem was the aftertaste it left.
