Notes/Commercial Description:
A Belgian Witbier brewed with pilsner malt, oats, bitter and sweet orange peel, coriander and chamomile flowers. This refreshing “white” beer is a perfect summer beer that starts out sweet and citrusy and finishes dry and crisp with a hint of tartness. The name is a tribute to the 1959 White Sox!

Very pale murky yellow with quarter inch white head that lasts.

Smell is peculiar in that it has a well water scent mixed in with overripe lemons, yeasty and a light floral bouquet.

Taste is yeasty with muddled lemon. More floral notes come out as it warms.

Mouthfeel is light to me with some creaminess as in the middle of fresh baked bread. I enjoyed the aftertaste and breathing it through the nose more than in drinking it!?!

I had got this for my wife who is a huge Allagash White fan who handed it back to me with a quizzical look. I have to agree it is a bit off center of the norm, yeastier than I care for. Not bad but then again not great. Again, something worth a try and make your own opinion.

On tap at the Publican, served in a 12 oz. footed tulip glass.
Quick review from written notes.

Pale pastel yellow, opaque with a hint of orange coloration. Creamy surface foam, good coverage with minor specks of lace.

Floral and earthy aroma, coriander dominates, floral garden scents, light yeast.

Smooth and crisp, wheaty middle with some herbal undertones, lightly astringent. Medium to light body with a dry finish, light spice and wheat in the aftertaste. Overall a good summer refresher, maybe a little more spicy than other Wits, but otherwise pretty standard.

Served in a 5oz taster glass at Tighthead 7/21/12.

A: Served with the requisite Wit haze. This had a bit of a green tint to it. A puffy, bright-white head formed on top and left a nice amount of lace behind.

S: Pretty long on the citrus. Lemon & lime zest, orange pulp, etc.

T: Follows the smell closely. I had to search for any trace of chamomile. I finally found them when this had a chance to warm up. Nice herbal counter to the citrus.

M: A bit too thin for my liking. I had expected the oats to smooth and thicken this more than they did.

O: Perfect hot weather beer. Just not what I was looking for at that moment. No fault of the beer...just sayin'.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the tap room.

Gotta love a beer that commemorates the '59 Go-Go White Sox, eh? Especially a nice little wit brewed with chamomile... It pours a hazy golden straw topped by a finger (at best) of white foam. The nose comprises coriander, lemon zest, light wheat, and a touch of mild flowers (I'm assuming this would be the aforementioned chamomile). The taste brings in more of the same, though the flowers are now stronger, bitterer, and, somehow, also sweeter. It's strange to describe, really; all I can truly say is that although the flavors are indeed familiar, the combination is unlike any wit I've had before. In a mostly good way. The body straddles the line between heavy light and light medium, with a moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda dry finish. Overall, a nice, refreshing (whatever that really means...I just know it felt pretty good to drink this given the relative heat of the day...) wit. Good times.

Served on tap at the Oak Park Micro Brew Review. Apperance is cloudy and yellow with white head, typical apperance for a wit. Nose is heavy with coriander and orange peel with phenols from the beglo yeast on the forefront as well. Very spicy and a hint of grainy wheat at the back as well. Flavor is light, spicy, and features strong presence of coriander and cloves. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Overall, a flavorful albeit spicy wit which just does not work for me.
