Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge four finger off white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of clingy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A yeast driven Belgian style aroma with hints of fruit and spices. Upfront Belgian yeast with some farmhouse funk, clove, and peppers. Bright and zesty citrus fruit presence with hints of orange, lemon zest, pineapple, and apricot. Sweet bready malt presence with hints of caramel, straw, grains, and cracker. Also some light sweet candied sugar hints. Hops are pretty subtle. Solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a bright and zesty yeast driven taste with citrus and spice notes. Belgian yeast with notes of farmhouse funk, peppers, and clove spicing. Juicy citrus fruit taste with notes of orange peel, lemon zest, pineapple, apricot, and peach. Notes of candied sugar. Sweet bready malt presence with notes of grains, straw, caramel, oats, and cracker. Subtle earthy hops in the background. A nice juicy taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a Saison. Not as funky as typical for the style but there is a pretty good citrus taste.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3

Appearance:
Cloudy, light brown colored body with a fantastic, white head that remains thick for quite some time. Decent amount of carbonation.

Aroma:
The aroma has a nice funk that is ripe with earthy spices and a distinct Belgian character, yeast I believe. Clove and ground pepper with plenty of sweet citrus notes and subtle hints of banana.

Taste:
Doesn't quite live up to the aroma.. Bitterness hits upfront and ride this one all the way through and unfortunately it isn't very pleasant. Through the bitterness, you can detect dull orange peel which provides some much needed tart and sweet notes. Funky aftertaste that lingers.

Mouthfeel:
Medium body. Carbonation is good but fades fast if not consumed quickly. Semi-dry finish.

Overall:
Not a bad for the style as it does check most of the right boxes. That said, it's just not enjoyable once move forth from the aroma. If more character could break through the bitterness, this could be a stellar entry.

Hazy golden color with one finger of head that quickly settled to a thin cap. Spotty lacing is left down the glass.

Yeasty aroma of cloves and phenols. But what I like is the citrus, fruity aromas coming off the beer.

This is a spicy saison without being too phenolic in flavor. The fruit that I smelled also comes into the flavor which balances the peppery, clove yeast elements. A little bit of sweetness from the malt also adds some nice balance.

Light body that could use just a tick more carbonation. Lays a little flat in the finish.

A good beer. Maybe not my first choice to satiate a thirst after some hard labor in the summer heat as it is a little too sweet and does not finish crisp and clean. But it does have good balance of flavors in a lower ABV package.

P- Thanks to my buddy Matt for this brew!

A- 3 and half finger foamy head that cascades over my pint. A slplotcy lacing on the inside of pint as well. somewhat opaque and looks like jellyfish tentacles reach down the inside from the head. gold wheat color.

S- spicy pepper and lemon zest nose. gum in the back end as well.

F- pepper spice with lemon zest. complement flavors are nicely done. I also get some sweet bubblegum flavor in the mouth more than the nose had. this is quite tasty.

M-yeasty and somewhat heavy in that regards but also goes down easy an smooth.

O- a really good saison and one flavor doesn't dominate the other. It is medium bodied but goes down with ease. well worth a sixer in the summer.

A: The beer is hazy golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation along with some small particulates near the bottom of the glass. It poured with a finger high white head that gradually died down and left a thin head covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of spices are present in the nose—pepper seems to stand out in particular—along with strong notes of yeast and faint hints of apricots.
T: The taste generally follows the smell and starts off with some initial flavors of apricots and yeast and is followed by notes of peppery spices that linger through the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: This saison is easy to drink and seems to hit most of the notes you would expect from the style, except for having dryness in the mouthfeel.

Taste - bitter flavor overpowers the usual saison sweetness

Feel - smooth start, medium carbonation, medium body, lingering bitter aftertaste

Overall - disappointing version of a saison

I can't pass up a local saison, so when I saw this in bottles, I had to pick one up. Tasted 17 August 2013.

Pours a hazy medium amber, slightly orangey. Half-finger of fizzy off-white head, little of it and styrofoamy. Okay retention, little lacing. Not the best.

Smell is a varied bundle of saison smells, all good. Yeast and fruit are most prominent, peaches and other stone fruit. There are also earthy and spicy aromas, adding nice depth. I really dig the smell of this.

Taste is duller, but still not bad. It's warm, earthy and lightly fruity, with a touch of spice. Has a bitter fade in the finish. I like it, and it all works well together, but somehow it feels a little empty.

Feel is excellent. Medium-bodied, eruptive fizzy carbonation that backs off just as it needs to. It brings out the best of the flavor, then disappears at exactly the right time.

This is a really solid saison. It's got all the pieces, in mostly balanced amounts. There are two main things holding it back: there's no element that's particularly impressive, and the pieces don't quite come together to a synergistic whole.

20oz pour on tap. poured into a hefeweizen glass.

look is an extremely cloudy golden orange. smell is like the flavor, but subdued: malt, yeast, pepper, clove, and root beer. feel is a light medium with plenty of carbonation.

very flavorful saison, comparable to surly cynic.

Lucid Silo Saison, Lucid Brewing, Minnetonka, MN. Brewed and bottled by Lucid Brewing Company, Minnetonka, MN. Saison-styled Ale. 5.5% ABV.

Thoroughly hazed, dark amber hue, smallish white head. (Starts big, but collapses quickly.)

Aroma: Earthy. Malty. Belgian yeast-y. Just enough sweetness. Rye malt? Very rustic, right on point. I like this.

Taste: Ah! Yum! Tasty Belgian malt, minor hops, spicy & earthy malts. Medium to low body, easy consumability. Much complexity. A different take on a saison than we typically get from our local breweries.

I admit this: When I downed my first bottle from this six-pack I wasn't sure if I like it, so much so that I regretted having 5 more to pass down my gullet. With my second bottle, I like it more and more, wondering what I objected to with the first one. Now that I've finished my final one with these notes, I wish I had another.
