This Black Pale Ale offers a smooth and complex contrast of dark chocolate and roasted malt flavors with bright and tropical guava, mango and pear hop flavors and aromas. Three different American malts stand up to generous amounts of West Coast El Dorado and Citra hops in an unfiltered and unpasteurized ale. Finally, it is aged in oak Scorpion Mezcal barrels from Oaxaca, Mexico for several months to impart a unique smokey, charred oak and roasted agave finish.

On tap at Morris Tap and Grill in Randolph. Pours a jet black ebony hue with moderate frothing. Mellow aroma replete with hints of chocolate and mocha. Similar overall flavor profile.

thanks Anthony for bringing this to a tasting and leaving it behind for me to drink. enjoyed from a b2 tb oversized snofter. pours black as night w a tanning grey head...massive in size and foamy frothiness. nose is a sharp spicy meal over big toasty hops. taste is huge meal with a hoppy roasty pale in the backseat. I thought I was going to hate it based on the description but I actually quite like it. go figure...mezcal and black hippy pale go well together. not life altering but a surprisingly tasty and unique blend.

22oz waxed topped brown bomber, sample from the brewer.
Pale? Really? Moving on ...
A dark ale aged in Mezcal barrels and well hopped with El Dorado and Citra hops. Wood char, faint smoke, grilled tropical fruit, faint rind, and a hint of agave in the nose and on the palate. Really complex yet not a behemoth as it rests as 5.7% and is semi-dry. Nothing short of amazing here, more brewers need to play around with slightly lower abv barrel aged brews.
