12oz bottle (date stamp 13 269) poured into a Libbey globe porter/stout glass.

Appearance: Brown on the table, ruby red when held up to the light at the edges. Thin tan head, some occasional strands and islands of lacing.

Smell: Peppery, strong ginger smell, some molasses and other gingerbread smells as it warms up. When first poured cold it is almost astringent in smell - like a savory spicy. Let it warm up and the smell comes out more like you would imagine it should based on the name of the beer. Every now and then there is a strong spicy aroma, almost paprika like, coming off this beer. The rest of the time a highly spiced gingerbread. Odd.

Taste: Definite gingerbread flavor, but not a very sweet one. Stronger spice notes in this gingerbread, like someone went too light on the molasses and brown sugar when they made it. Ginger dominates, but there are definite pepper and nutmeg notes in here as well. I waited for this to warm up to see if the sweetness came out more - no dice. I think not enough malt in this one when they made it.

Mouthfeel: Slick, good carbonation, sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: I think the concept has great potential, but I think it needs more malt or molasses to make it just a tad more sweet to counter the strong spices. Maybe with the right meal it would have worked better, but buy itself I found it not that enjoyable.

Pour a ruddy ruby, rather than a straight brown. I get a nicely-sized tan head. Lace is unremarkable, though.

Nose is spice -- notably cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger. Very definitively a holiday-styled ale.

Taste is more of the heavy spice character, with spicy ginger seeming most prominent. Allspice and cinnamon follow. Body is light, but taste is heavy. A solid winter warmer.

A: The beer has a slight haze and is very dark brownish amber in color with a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that died down and left a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of ginger are present in the nose along with notes of allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg and nutty malts.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the spices are a bit more prominent.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer smells a lot like a gingerbread cookie and is a nice ale for the holidays.

Dark brown, this beer allows just a little light in its body. A small tan head falls off in a short time but keeps up a bit and leaves sporadic lacing.
The aroma brings the spiciness, where ginger is used to good effect. It does smell like ginger snaps, but is supported by mild malts with a toasty quality.
In the taste, the beer loses the cookie effect and the ginger takes on a more raw sort of effect. It's bitingly spicy and a little tangy on the end with just a little malts base to build off of.
The body is on the thinner side with fluffy carbonation and is spritzy on the tongue.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Dark brown with tan and black tint. 1/4 inch foamy head with plenty of lacing.

Smell - Sweet malts, ginger, molasses, cherry and raisin. Added spices, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.

Taste - Impressed by the smell, welcomed this with open arms, then took a sip. Very bland brown ale with flat malts and some added spices. Not sweet or fruity, has a bold spice flavor much like if you added too much cinnamon to a oatmeal cookie and it mutes all the flavors.

Mouthfeel - Basically the spices coat the tongue with there bold nutmeg and cinnamon flavor. Palate gets more of the same with a minor cherry note at the finish. Aftertaste is spiced and dry.

Overall - Nothing worth drinking, lacks balance, flavor and the enjoyment of a winter ale. If it had some sweetness and fruity flavors to balance out the spices it would help. A lot better winter ales out there, skip this one.

Each beer I try is harsher than the next, this brewery can't stay open much longer. It's terrible, now to be fair I will try this. Dark cola brown hue with a light beige head forms thick beautiful head retention. Aroma very muted spices, almost a sour mash of semi sweet dark roasted malts. There's a very acidic note that borders on cider vinegar in character just not as pronounced in the acidity. I'm getting ginger, spice, Christmas cookie notes out of this brown ale. Flavors, well the perceived sweetness doesn't lie it comes off very acidic and somewhat sour not even an intended sour brown just plain off, the spices are muddled the beer is just lackluster. And this experience is not much different than any of the other Triton brewing beers I've come across, overall it's been my experience by trying at least four beers that these are just not worth it. Too many better beers out there not as cloying on the palate with acidity and muddled flavors, sorry to be negative I guess I'm attempting some constructive criticism.

These guys make a pretty tasty IPA, and they’re local, so we always get their new releases ASAP…I can’t really say why I haven’t tried more of their brews. Time to change that.

A: Pours with a translucent mahogany body – dark, though it lets a substantial amount of light through. The head is barely there, just a quarter-inch of tan cream, slightly raised along the glass’ edge. Spotty lacing.

S: Nose is mild, projecting a sugary pub ale character above all else: earthy, roasted nuts and toasted biscuit, with notes of vanilla cake, nutmeg, and cinnamon. In fact, everything comes together to form a spot-on gingerbread profile.

T: Earthy sweetness permeates the front of the palate – brown sugar, pumpkin bread, vanilla custard, sweet potato – while remaining at a perfectly drinkable level. Soon after, it becomes a zesty, spiced brew, crisply bitter with cinnamon, citrus rind, allspice, and peppery hop notes. Finishes with those dry potpourri tastes, plus an added toasted biscuit character.

M: The soft body and light prickle of carbonation gives it a clean, on-tap character from the bottle. Again, it’s pub-style…this pleases me.

O: What Triton’s crafted something palatable and satisfying, a mild brown that would make for a nice wintertime six-pack. I’ll make it a point to pick up some of their year-rounds next time I’m out.
