What a let down.

A- Poured fresh from a can into a HF stem glass. Pretty terrific cherry red color, some quickly dissipating white head.

S- Here the trouble began. Not much in the way of sour funk, but plenty of artificial, semi-medicinal cherry notes. It was off-putting from the first sniff.

T- Not very sour, not a whole lot of Brett charachter. Robotussin came right through the middle, finished that way too.

M- Fine, not thin, not syrupy.

Overall this was disappointing. It didn't have the sourness that you'd expect and the cherry flavor was a little perfumey and artificial on the nose and pallet. This was fresh, would age change it? Don't know, but worth finding out.

A: Bold, cloudy, ruby red. Very loud carbonation.

S: Musty brett funk, vinegar, and cherry jolly ranchers.

T: The tartness is there but overwhelmed by the artificial-tasting flavor of cherries and a bitter, cough syrup finish. Honestly, this tastes a lot like Robitussin.

M: Not sure if the slight syrupy sensation is there or an artifact of the cough syrup taste.

O: Happy to have tried it, more than happy to never have it again. Given that I traded something quite good for this, I might have to power through this one.

Can - sticky label, from the fridge into an oversize tulip.

Pour is gorgeous, not a word I would typically associate with beer. But this looks like cranberry juice with a thin layer of bubbles and a crispness around the edges.

Sour, dry nose.

Taste is underwhelming compared to the pour but in-line with the aroma; this is crisp, lightly sour with a good fruit presence.

Mouth is light, fizzy up front, almost nothing at the end. The carbonation is very faint, but there is enough to tickle your nose.

Really enjoyed this - missed it at the Brewpub so happy to have a second bite of the apple.

Poured from the can into my HF tulip...

A - Dark red color, decent head that leaves the glass fairly quickly. Pretty good lace retention

S - Huge cherry waft, some sour tartness, grape skin, Belgian yeast, grass

T - Cherry right up front mixed in with a decent amount of lemon acidity

M - Thin feel, high carbonation, a nice bite off the palate

O - I really enjoyed this. The cherries and sour mix well together. It's not quite puckering but gives you just enough. Great job Alchemist!
