Poured from a can into a brew fest tasting glass that holds 4 oz. The rest was consumed out of the can.
A: Pale yellow-orange hazy brew with a finger of creamy off white head.strong lacing left on the glass that lasted for a good 3 hours. Good looking fresh beer.
S: Overwhelming smell of grapefruit and resin hops. Strong enough to make me gulp and suck in extra air.
T: Strong hop bitterness of grapefruit, and slight hints of orange that hit the palate hard and blend into earthy bits of rye, ginger, honey and caramel for a smooth clean finish. This beer is deep and complex and not a mere vessel to display hop bitterness. The tart sweetness of ginger comes on after the hop burst with earthy spicyness reminiscent of rye malts and sweet honey at the end. A very complex profile that gets more flavorful and intense as the beer warms up and the sediment in the can mixes back into the body of the beer.
M: Very creamy mouthfeel. very good for an ipa.
O: Great beer. The Alchemist followed the Dogfishhead model and made an exceptional deep and complex brew that accentuates the hop profile as well as having an interesting malt profile to back it up and make it interesting.

I thought maybe the hype was too much for this beer, but god damn! This is amazing! The appearance is a dark golden hue with a nice head that lasts and then trails down the glass. The smell is full of citrus and baked bread. The taste is crazy complex with different sensations of hops coming through all through out the taste. Love this one, maybe a new favorite.

I was lucky enough to try my first Heady thanks to a very generous fellow BA(mojosly!!)
A: not sure because I "drank it out of the can!" Like it says to do but I gotta believe it looks like all great DIPA's do.. Hazy orangish with a cream head and a good amount of lacing?
S: smells of citrus.. I got alot of lemon and even a little flower bouquet.. Not much pine which was a bit surprising
T: citrus.. Less lemon than the smell.. More sweet.. Zero pine and no bitter after taste.. Devine!
O: very very good.. Is it better than other amazing DIPAs that I've had? Maybe? Either way it is damn good and I am stoked to get some more and try it out of a glass to see if it changes anything for me.. Thanks again for the hookup Nat!

I was able to get a can of the Heady Topper through a new acquaintance out of J'Town, PA. I traded Two Bros Night Cat and Side Kick for it. The beer poured a hazy straw color with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is mostly sweet malt....and I was hoping for more pine and citrus. The taste was a good balance between sweeter malt and bitter hops there is presence of some pine and a touch of apricot like citrus all bolstered by an oily resiny base. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a solid beer....but not the best IPA I've had (IMO). It's great...don't get me wrong...but the original Zombie Dust before is was massed produced was better.
