16oz can - Second distribution

A: Medium/dark amber in color and unfiltered. Carbonation was on the low side and produced a very small white head. Ok, I admit it, I did not follow directions and poured it into a glass. In my defense, the picture on the can is showing someone drinking out of a glass, not a can.

S: Perfect hoppy, fruity, floral, and sweet aromas. Hops smell like simcoe and amarillo to me, but I'm not sure. The smell by itself is intoxicating.

T: Taste is hoppy and sweet. For an American DIPA, this beer is very well balanced. I usually enjoy more hoppy bitterness with this style, but I cannot complain, this was very enjoyable. The flavors are very powerful and long lasting.

M: Thick, creamy, and smooth. I was not anticipating this beer to be so creamy and smooth. Perhaps a little more carbonation would enhance the mouthfeel.

O: My first beer from The Alchemist and hopefully the first of many. Heady Topper blends some of my favorite hops to produce an excellent and very drinkable American DIPA. Hard to believe that there is 8% in there somewhere. Since I tend to compare beers while I drink them, I immediately thought this beer was similar to Alpine Duet and Maine Beer Company Lunch in both smell and taste. I am looking forward to my next Heady Topper and planning an upcoming trip to VT.

I was lucky enough to try my first Heady thanks to a very generous fellow BA(mojosly!!)

A: not sure because I "drank it out of the can!" Like it says to do but I gotta believe it looks like all great DIPA's do.. Hazy orangish with a cream head and a good amount of lacing?

S: smells of citrus.. I got alot of lemon and even a little flower bouquet.. Not much pine which was a bit surprising

T: citrus.. Less lemon than the smell.. More sweet.. Zero pine and no bitter after taste.. Devine!

M: medium

O: very very good.. Is it better than other amazing DIPAs that I've had? Maybe? Either way it is damn good and I am stoked to get some more and try it out of a glass to see if it changes anything for me.. Thanks again for the hookup Nat!

I was able to get a can of the Heady Topper through a new acquaintance out of J'Town, PA. I traded Two Bros Night Cat and Side Kick for it. The beer poured a hazy straw color with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is mostly sweet malt....and I was hoping for more pine and citrus. The taste was a good balance between sweeter malt and bitter hops there is presence of some pine and a touch of apricot like citrus all bolstered by an oily resiny base. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a solid beer....but not the best IPA I've had (IMO). It's great...don't get me wrong...but the original Zombie Dust before is was massed produced was better.

Hard-to-find, but when I did I drink it straight from the can. Overall a good IPA but not the best I've ever had. I busted two cans in my luggage flying back from Vermont. So please protect it better than I did. Hoppy yes, but not too hoppy. Good balance.

Received as an extra in a trade with malfunxion. First time trying this - and as advised from The Alchemist, I drank it straight from the can. The artwork on the can draws you in to that first sip. Taste is a perfect blend of hops with very little bitterness; delicious. Well done, but best beer in the world? No way.

So I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this beer and it packs a deceiving kick. Though I do think this is a great beer for hop heads and I do enjoy massive doses of that piny spicy flower I am not sure I could give this a 100. Great yes but a 100 no. The best beer not to me.
