Stone’s Throw is dark, complex, and smooth. It is very approachable for those new to craft beer, satisfy serious veterans. The aroma hints of toasted breadcrumbs, caramel, and dried fruits. The flavor is dominated by caramel toffee, toasty malt, hints of cocoa, honey sweetness.

(12 oz can, no date/code; purchased single off shelf at Happy Harry's in Fargo the other day... poured into a Busch shaker pint)
Slightly-hazy, dark tawny colored liquid; two finger high foam build settles into tight cap, stretched collar... smells like a lightly mocha-tinged amber ale, malty, chocolaty, biscuity; not unlike a Keebler's E.L. Fudge; borders on brown ale territory; hint of dark plumy fruit along the edge... on the palate: plum and chocolate biscuit; roasty, light coffee tone in the aftertaste, coloring the mild, grassy bitterness lingering in the finish; flash of caramel up front, but it doesn't quite approach rounded sweetness; muddy overall... slight swell (of body) up front quickly washes away, flat-planed finish, little residual film left, however, it's not quite bone dry... American homebrew interpretation of a Scottish Ale; this one's kind of a 2:1 brown-amber blend perhaps; overall, kind of a generic 'ale' with little personality; decent wallpaper beer (2179)

A: The beer is clear caramel brown in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that quickly died down and left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of toasted and bready malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of toasted malts along with notes of caramel and raisins. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels light-bodied and watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but is light in body for the style.
Serving type: can

Poured cold from a 12-ounce can into a tulip glass. Pours a glossy, deep chestnut brown, with ruby highlights and a thick, soapy tan head that settled momentarily leaving little lacing. Based on the description, this seems like a good representation of the style. Loads of caramel malt on the nose and palate, with only a hint of smokiness and char. There is also dried fruit (raisin, prune, black cherry) in the profile. Restrained bitterness, a slightly silky mouthfeel with good carbonation, and a bit of tart fruit lingering on the finish. Overall, a very good beer, tasty enough on its own and a nice pairing with food as well.

12oz can courtesy of Victory_Sabre1973. One of only a handful of North Dakota beers I've had, all courtesy of him. No date on the can, which reveals itself, at 4.5% abv, to be the lightest Scottish Ale I've ever had thus far.
Poured into a shaker pint glass, this was a dark mahogany color, with a thin, khaki colored head. Spotty lace.
Surprisingly robust and peaty aroma for such a low abv beer.
Tastes for a moment like I was expecting from the smell, but then it's like a brown ale with some Dr.Pepper thrown in has collided with it. Flavors don't mesh well together at all. It's a bit of a sweet mess.
A bit watery for the style. I was expecting that from the abv, however.
I sat on this for a while thinking it was a stronger beer, so perhaps it deteriorated, but from what I'm getting from it, I'm not a fan. Because of the possible age, I would give it another chance if I came across it again and knew it was a fresh one. Thanks, James!

I am happy about this beer it will mark my 43rd state from which I have tried beer. The beer is 45 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour on the beer produced a one finger light ivory head with poor retention. The head dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 15 a deep copper with dark amber hues. The clarity of the beer is clear with a few carbonation bubbles visible. I love the way this beer looks minus the head. The head in this beer is generally low with poor retention.
The initial aroma of the beer is caramel and toffee. Next, I get earthy, floral, herbal, toasted breadcrumbs, and orange. Lastly, I get a subtle sweet aroma with yeast.
The first flavor I get is loads of caramel and earthy notes. Next, I get floral, herbal, toasted ladyfingers, orange, floral, and roasty malts. Lastly, I taste grass and yeast.
The mouthfeel of the beer is dry and musty.
The body of the beer is medium, medium-high carbonation, and a medium finish.
This Scottish ale is a good example of this style. The beer is well made and aligned with the style. I enjoyed the beer.
