I've had this beer a few dozen times, and it was actually one of the first beers I had started drinking regularly when going to BJ's. When I originally had it, I might have scored the beer much higher, but after trying hundreds of other brews and coming back I've found this one to be somewhat lackluster.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the drink's smell and taste, it's just a bit bland and uninteresting. It's crisp, refreshing, decent alcohol content, has a nice robust flavor, an overall balanced flavor and a controlled amount of bitterness. Virtually no hop. I feel that the drink is far too sweet for my personal tastes, kind of a syrupy flavor and mouth-feel at times. I like my ales to have a wider variety of flavors, but Jeremiah red is all malt and fruit. It's OK. Certainly smells a lot better than it tastes, in my opinion.
No lacing/walling at all, which is a huge hit to the appearance score, but I do like the color and appearance otherwise. Overall it's a decent beer, but I wouldn't pay $5/per glass for a sub-par beer when they have Green Flash and Firestone Walker on tap.
