Poured from a nitro-tap into a pint glass at BJ's
A - Poured very dark almost black, with foam that cascaded to the top of the glass. The head retention was great and the lacing was thick and beautiful; some of the lacing even lasted through my entire drink.
S - Smell was malty with notes of coffee and nuts, along with a hint of chocolate.
T - Taste was similar to the smell. I could definitely taste the roasted malts. I could also taste some chocolate and it did have a bit of a nutty flavor to it. A bit sweeter than your standard porter. Flavors weren't very complex.
M - Mouthfeel was super thick and creamy for a porter this is likely from the Nitro-tap.
D - Overall I enjoyed the beer and would drink it again at BJ's. A pretty good example of a porter and the nitro was an interesting change-up making this beer very creamy.

A: The color is on the light side for a porter. A medium mahogany color with a mild cream colored head.
S: The nose is quite roasty and with some mild coffee notes. All in all, not that eventful.
T: Like the nose, most of what is going on here is roasted malt and coffee with some mild sweetness.
M: The body is medium with that patented smooth, creamy carbonation of the Nitro-tap.
D: Not a terribly interesting beer, but it's not bad either. A decent little beer, I'd be interested to try it on CO2 to see if it is more flavorful.

On nitro at the Irvine location, on to the beer:
Could this beer spur the category of sweet porter? This is a very sugary sweet-like porter, and tasted similar to their seasonal oatmeal stout. Aroma is full of sweet creamy goodness, and it goes down very easy. Not a lot of smokey and roasted flavor, and not the most robust porter around, but a darn good one for starters, and perhaps would be good with their pizookie dessert.

enjoyed at the rancho location, though it was probably brewed here (?)
seriously nicec look about it. as near to black as it could get with a super creamy tan head. dense stuff.
aroma was light, though they tend to pour everything on the cold side and use cooled glasses too.
very smooth taste. let it warm a bit to let the dry roastiness come out.
not a huge fan of porters, but glad i tried this one. also, my first nitro tap review (woo-hoo!). dont care what people say about it, it works with this beer. the malty taste is complemented well by the smooth creamy mouthfeel. nice.

This thing LOOKED like a robust porter. Pitch dark brown, opaque, with a nice thick creamy tan head, with some good staying power as a small cap. The smell consists of deep roasted and chocolate malts.
Chocolate and caramel and roasted malts in the taste, with very slight bitterness, hardly detectable. It is very rich, smooth and syrupy thick, in my opinion a little too much so for a porter. Not too bad- a good tasty porter, but a little on the thick side as mentioned.
___
Sampled again 7/29/07
As rich as before, mouthfeel wasn't as viscous this time, but slightly more body than most porters heavy-medium or even light-heavy. Liked it even better this time.
