A: Poured from a growler into a 20oz. Mason Jar (only clean glass at the time.) Poured a beautiful dark chocolate color with a creamy chocolate mousse 2-finger head. Very appealing to look at.

S: Up-front notes of smoky, rich belgian chocolate. A bit of vanilla extract on the linger, with some residual sweetness. It definitely smells like a porter, but some great hints of chocolate bitterness peek through.

T: This is a nice, dry porter with some slightly complex mixtures of tasty smoked malts and chocolate undertones. Up-front flavors of wet wood, strong coffee, and smoked malts with a bone-dry finish that lingers like dried cocoa powder. Complex enough but a bit thin in flavor profile.

M: Dry and a bit chalky. It has a good presence, not too heavy or lite, but with a bit of a watery afterfeel. Good. Not great.

O: For those who might be scared away by the mocha description, don't: it's not overly chocolately and what chocolate there is, is of the dry variety. Tasty, well-balanced, and a good porter to add to the mix.

Fills a shaker pint glass DEEP DARK brown, while when put to the light dark garnet highlights are apparent. The slight head is creamy, dark chestnut that leaves small patches of lace.

Rich roasted malt aromas, are nearly burnt, with pumpernickel and caramelized sugar components.

The flavor is heavily influenced by the aroma, accenting the black coffee, while adding some baker’s chocolate. The roasted bitterness overtakes the sweetness, in a welcome way, while the modest finish is rather subtle.

Smooth, creamy medium body with modest carbonation, and no trace of alcohol, but light astringency holds it back.

Chicory Mocha Porter is a fine beer, for a humid early Summer day. Enjoy this with friends, preferably in a cool dark place with good music.

first brew from good nature, wont be my last. the pour on this was a little thin, milk chocolate colored brown without much head at all. the nose is great though, lots of roasty malt and chicory seems to be in lesser proportion than say the dogfish stout, but its definitely present. cocoa powder appears to have been used. taste confirms the cocoa powder addition, dusty and bitter, but with a short finish. i really like it juxtaposed to the chicory and dark malt. a smoothness of feel results that very pleasant, although i with this baby had just a tad more carbonation. itd be an all day winter session brew for me if it did. instead its a little flat feeling, and the semisweet body gets weighty. overall though an impressive glass of beer, ambitious and pretty well done. will look forward to my next good nature offering. oh, i almost forgot how nicely this went with parmesean chicken wings. it cut the dry oily crispy wing with its sweetness, and the bitter side went great with the cheese. real nice pairing if you get the chance.

Had this porter on-tap at J. Ryan's in Syracuse.
Served in a pint glass; pitch black in color with a nice khaki colored head that dissipated fairly slowly.
Lots of chicory in the nose, with hints of roasted malts, cocoa/chocolate and some coffee.
Smooth mouthfeel, almost silky on the palate. Very nice sweetness upfront which is quickly taken over by roasted malt flavor, some smokiness and a hint of hop bitterness towards the finish.
Good use of the chicory in this porter, which is easy to drink and has a really good mouthfeel.
Definitely worth trying if you enjoy porters.
