A beer not afraid to bare it all, just like the enthusiasts at Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, this Butte-copper hued, full-figured beer is a traditional English-style pale ale with earthy aromas and deep hop bitterness coming from the generous additions of English noble hops. Don’t be afraid to show off your pale side.

Such a sweet and creamy ale. A unique pale ale full of flavor, and unique aroma.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a golden amber color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast, leaving just a trace of white lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma is mostly of a bready smell mixed with a little bit of a lighter fruity smell of apple, pear and orange smell with a decent showing of a caramel aroma as well. Some light notes of citrus and pine hop round out the aroma, creating a simple, but clean smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready taste mixed with some lighter notes of a citrus hop as well as some lighter caramel tastes. The caramel fades rather quickly with the bready taste taking on a more cracker like flavor. While this occurs some pine and earth come to the tongue with just a hint of fruitiness, leaving a rather dry and moderately hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner to average side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the mix of drier flavors and moderate hoppiness the feel is rather nice, with it creating a fresh crisp base.

Overall – A fairly nice and slightly more crisp pale ale with a balanced level of hop and drier malt.

On tap, in a pint glass at the brewery, on a warm summer evening. Classic and well-done version of the English Pale Ale. Amber color with no cloudiness. Aroma of light caramel with slight citrus. Mouth-feel appropriate to style. Decent head retention and lacing. Dry biscuit malt finish with balanced bitterness. A very nice beer overall.

Pours golden with light cream foam. Nose has floral notes and faint malts, with subtle accents of grain and honey. Flavor is primarily grass and soil - very english to me. Medium body with moderate carb and semi dry finish. Meh.

EDIT - This review is for a dry-hopped version of the beer. This was noted in the beer name that I added but someone felt the need to change it.

This was the fourth or so installment of cask Wednesday at Draught Works.

This draws a pale, clear gold with a tightly-packed two finger head that sticks around forever and leaves really nice lace on the way down. On the nose there is a nice and subdued aroma of fresh hops, which the bartender informs me is either East Kent Goldings or Fuggles, with a malt backbone evident because the hops don't completely overpower the beer. In the mouth there is a low level of carbonation that makes it go down very easily. The floral and maybe slightly tangerineish hops highlight a doughy backbone with hints of caramel. The body is medium light, very easy to drink.

Overall, this is a fine, easily quaffable, very well-balanced pale ale. Jeff, the brewer, has described the base beer as a very traditional pale ale, and the serving style is obviously very traditional, but the dry-hopping adds just a bit extra that make this beer special. Keep an eye out for this on cask Wednesdays.
