22oz bomber from Boise's newest bottling brewery, poured into a CBS snifter.

A: Dark and nearly opaque, really don't get a ton of light through this one but there is ruby red highlights...minimal head from an aggressive pour, though carbonation seems good.

S: Malt, subtle roastiness, nutty earthy notes, light fruit notes from a yeast ester I'm guessing, hints of chocolate and hops.

T: A bit more roasty here, definite coffee presence...creamy malty notes, chocolate, molasses, lightly roasted nuts, fruity notes again.

MF: Creamy body, medium feel, pretty drinkable, with a dry finish.

O: A really decent porter, above average for sure, and pretty drinkable. Crooked Fence is starting out on the right foot it would seem.

Had this at alefort on tap. same notes:

Smell is good. Not overly strong but there is some coffee coming through on a low level. Look dark as in black. A little head that ends up ringing the tumbler glass I am drinking out of. I expected more head. Ok considerable more head wanted. Taste is light on the coffee with earth tones showing throug on the nose. . Maybe a little coriander on the tail end Feel. Co2 yeah. Alot of it. This effected the taste and lead to a stomach ache after five drinks. The feel is killing this beer for me. Overall. Not in my top 10 porters but will stay on my drink list since it is a decent porter and local

Bottle picked up today at the COOP ... Don't remember the price, but it wasn't too expensive for a 22. Poured into my small CC goblet.

Short lasting dark tan head leaves little in the way of a cap, but somehow decent lacing shows for the entire glass. The brew isn't exactly black... instead a deeeep dark brown that only shows its clarity when held to a light.

Nose is pretty good.... a nice mix of chocolate and light toasty maltiness... whaffs of smoke show when swirled and I am concentrating. Hops are there as a backbone, but I can't really discern much more than their light presence.

Good flavor packed into a smaller ABV porter... more cocoa and black malt than the nose led me to believe... there seems to be a touch of dry dark caramel essence... pretty clean... again the hops are more of a bitter balance... not getting much in the way of real hop flavor.

Mouthfeel is bigger than a normal 5.5 ... like some oats or maybe a bit of rye was thrown into the mix. Carbonation is light but certainly within style guidelines.

I am surprised... I normally don't care for standard porters... but I liked this one quite a bit... sessionable even.

A: Dark brown pour with a big fluffy light brown head. Moderate lacing but decent head retention.

S: Good chocolate along with mild dark fruits. Creamy and sweet. Hint of burnt toast.

T: Some bitter smoke and char, mixed with sweet chocolate. Nice combination. As the sweetness fades it turns much bitter and acrid with the smoke/char combination as they stand alone.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. Nice, especially for 5.5%.

O: Overall, not a bad porter. Fairly smoky but mostly covered up. Nice chocolate flavor, especially initially. Best part is easily the mouthfeel, very smooth and it goes down so easily.

Pours dark black with a leather head. Smooth mouth feel with roasted malt aroma. Some coffee and brown sugar tastes come through okay, but the soy sauce bitterness overtakes the porter and overdoes it IMO. Not my favorite porter out there.

12oz can purchased at Pilgrim’s in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for $1.59. No freshness date.

Poured a viscousy black color into a Jones Radiator mug. Thin tan head. Spotty lace.

Bitter, dark, roasted malt aroma dominates the scent profile of this beer, with some brown sugar and soy sauce notes.

Coffee and soy sauce bitterness vie with brown sugary sweetness, with the bitterness winning out. The soy sauce could be dialed down a little in my opinion.

Velvety-smooth mouthfeel to this. Carbonation seems a little low.

A decent porter, nothing great. I wouldn’t refuse one, but there’s better porters to be found in my neck of the woods.
