Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: amber hue with a very light haze and a light-to-moderate effervescence. Head is a thick finger of pillowy ivory foam which leaves a good, chunky lace on the glass. Spot-on for the style.

Smell: strong caramel aroma, although not overly sweet. Hops are dank and earthy. Not too bad.

Taste: bready, biscuity and caramelly. Hops are earthy and moderately bitter. Not bad for the style, although I admit the formula is not to my taste.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: not a bad amber ale; quite middle-of-the-road.

On-tap @ the Firehouse, Meridian ID. Served in a pint shaker.

A: Dark copper/amber with lots lacing left in rings along the glass. Attractive brew.

S: Hugely malty; toasted and a bit nutty in true Amber Ale fashion, with the slightest suggestion of resinous/piney hops. Big-time fruity presence in this one, not sure if its the yeast but it is definitely predominant after the malt.

T: Bready and malty, plenty of toasted grains and even some suggestions of caramel. I could of been tricking myself with the pine I detected on the nose; this thing is unabashedly malty with really no trace of hop balance. Plenty of that fruity character here as well, apples and honey come to mind.

MF: Medium bodied, fairly drinkable and approachable for such a malt-forward brew.

O: Decent drinker, not exactly what I was expecting, but with all of the hopped-up Amber Ales out there, this was a nice change of pace.

Picked this up tonight at Brewer's Haven... Paid $5ish. Poured into my HotD goblet.... 1" off-white head rises up and sticks around for a bit... nice lacing and cap... the brew is coppery/red.

Toasted biscuits in the aroma... hops are light and hard to pick out.. I get a light floral/citrus note, but that could be my nose playing tricks on me. Unapologetic malt forward, but still very balanced.

Flavor has all the same characters as the nose, but a light bitterness breaks up the maltiness and allows the flavors to separate and come back together.. Dry toast with some seemingly fermented out light caramel essence.. possibly some yeasty esters that make me think English yeast, but I am probably wrong.

Body is lighter side of medium with a nearly perfect carbonation... I normally don't give Amber ales too much thought, but this one is well done. Crooked Fence is really upping the game... I am seeing a ton of improvement since the opening.. Good work.
