This amber colored pale ale was the first beer we brewed together, so it was only fitting to name it FIRST BITE. Generous additions of American hops, light body and a dry finish give it plenty of flavor and aroma while still remaining highly drinkable. “YOU GOT BITTEN.”

for some reason i liked a lot of the new york hoppier pales more than others have on this site. something about the crispness, quite far from the sticky oily weighty west coast hoppy beers that appeals to me, maybe as much out of something different than anything else, but nevertheless, i thought this was really nice. its got a little malt to it too though, balanced in a way where both sides are bold. a slight copper hue to it, and that malt flavor is there, just a little richer than a pale base, and it gives the hops a lot to work with. not sure the varietals used, but i would think simcoe and/or centennial as a primary, it really has that awesome woody piney bitterness to it, really woodsy and adirondak feeling to me. the carbonation is really high, and i think thats needed in a beer this intensely flavored. i like that its hoppy like an ipa, but drinkable like a pale, with lower abv and just a medium body. maybe not the most inventive beer on earth, but i found it delicious and refreshing and beautifully hopped. i would buy this if it were available in colorado.

A- murky amber color with orange highlights. 1 and half finger foamy head with spiderweb lacing on the pint.
S- mild floral hops with hints of pine and grapefruit
T- Strong grapefruit with floral on the back end. very sweet yet dry
M- sweet dry and light bodied. Goes down smooth at first but it gets drier.
O- the grapefruit hop is quite over exaggerated but it is still a good beer.

Amber color with slight pink overtones, mild aroma, initial bitter taste that mellows into a nice buttery finish.

First bite pours a darker copper color with a tiny lacing head. Mellow aroma hints of spice. Taste is mellow but full, crisp hop flavor and hints of spice. Good body and feel. Overall a well constructed beer, nice hop flavors that doesn't smack you in the face.

Moderate head from a fairly vigorous pour. The head dies quickly to a thin layer of bubbles. Nice streaky lacing, though. The color of the broth is amber with a strong haze.
Full, pale malt aroma with a nice touch of bittering hop spice. Classic smell except for a light earthiness nose.
The malt start is brief with a far more strong bitterness from the hop than the smell indicates. It reminds me of the original microbrew pale ales from the early 90s--not very complex but the combination worked well. This beer is similar with a white pepper finish and a decently long aftertaste. The body and carbonation are both within the moderate range. The overall effect is pleasant with a strong leaning to the bitter.

Pours a clear Amber with a one inch white head that was fairly well retained and left a fair amount of lacing. Smells of citrus, pine and sweet malts. Tastes of grapefruit, some grapefruit rind, pine, a floral quality and bready malts. Medium bodied and carbonated, finishes slightly dry and moderately bitter.
