Served in a snifter glass.
Appearance: Pours a thick black, almost like used motor oil. Dark tan head rises thick at first just above a finger's at first. Settles slowly with even lacing throughout.
Smell: strong scent, with chocolate all over your nostrils. Feels heavy with the malts.
Taste: A real bitter brew, feels sweet at times. The dark chocolate is very evident. What I like the best is the bitterness it reminds me of what quality is supposed to be in beer.
Mouth: A dry dark chocolate after taste. Medium carbonation at best but this brew after feel of just lingers.
Overall: A very full bodied stout and animal of a beer. Is it the best Russian Imperial, maybe not but will it be your usual go to beer...why the f not? Drink up and enjoy, I will be picking up more on my next trip back, Salud!

a - poured a one finger thick dark brown head into a snifter that left a thin ring. the body was dark black.
s - clean and cool aroma with a hint of chocolate.
t - coffee, roasty, smoky and peaty. the finish was very astringent coffee.
m - thin body.
o - very disappointing RIS. thin, more like a coffee stout than a RIS.

Grumbler pour into a snifter.
A: Pours a very dark brown appearing black in the glass. Not much head on this, just a bit of light tan around the edges of the glass. Leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass.
S: Strong roastiness on this one, milk chocolate permeates the aroma as well. Hints of coffee and a bit like a milk stout.
T: Balanced flavor that surprises you at the fact its a RIS. At first there is a heavy dose of roasted malts with some hops trying to balance it out. Notes of coffee and hints of licorice as well.
M: Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Mostly clean finish with just a touch of stickiness. Alcohol is well hidden.
Overall this is a prime example of a Russian Imperial Stout. Really focuses on the roastiness and malt flavors. Velvetly smooth mouthfeel makes this easy drinking.
