Had a glass at Alewife in Queens. Overall, it's a solid imperial stout that's extra heavy on the roasted barley. It reminded me of dark French roast coffee beans—though not the brewed coffee—for the sharp, earthy burnt flavor. Under the black malt was milder cocoa and sweet-tasting caramel malt and a thick, bold, and bitter body. This is a fine sipper for a cold February night. Give it a try.

Grumbler pour into a snifter.
A: Pours a very dark brown appearing black in the glass. Not much head on this, just a bit of light tan around the edges of the glass. Leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass.
S: Strong roastiness on this one, milk chocolate permeates the aroma as well. Hints of coffee and a bit like a milk stout.
T: Balanced flavor that surprises you at the fact its a RIS. At first there is a heavy dose of roasted malts with some hops trying to balance it out. Notes of coffee and hints of licorice as well.
M: Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Mostly clean finish with just a touch of stickiness. Alcohol is well hidden.
Overall this is a prime example of a Russian Imperial Stout. Really focuses on the roastiness and malt flavors. Velvetly smooth mouthfeel makes this easy drinking.

12 oz bottle poured into Ommegang chalice
Very little head to speak of, and lightly carbonated. What did come together was a pleasing cordoroy. The body itself is just next to pitch black.
The aroma let off roasted malts, chocolate, and just a hint of booze. Other reviews have remarked on coffee, but I can't seem to find any. It does, however, smell delicious.
The taste almost perfectly imitates the nose, although the chocolate is a bit more present at the end.
Mouthfeel is a lot like a thin chocolate milk, perhaps the kind made with powder instead of syrup. There is some definite viscosity, but far from being considered “chewy." A little thin to my liking, but not disappointing, either.
This is one of my favorite RISs for what can be had by me. It remains very true to the style from what I can tell, and is finely satisfying in doing so. I was actually surprised when I realized I was able to stretch out drinking it over the course of an hour, but I would have to admit that it was not from a lack of desire to sip it on down. A very good beer that I would recommend a drinker a fan of the style try once.

Black body, ruby highlights along the bottom, and four fingers of dark tan foam that features an island floating on top.
Huge coffee aroma with a dollop of chocolate. Very inviting and enticing.
Taste begins with a huge slather of chocolate down the center of the tongue. Coffee bursts out along the edges of the tongue. Hop nip at the swallow.
Thick rich extra smooth mouthfeel.
Real good imperial stout I'd be happy to have another.
