Unfiltered draft sampler at Kraftbrau. Here’s the defining moment for a self-professed beer geek. Can I actually tell the difeerence between types of lagers at this lager-specialty pub? Maybe not in a blind tasting, but at least I could tell they were different.

This is much lighter in hops and carbonation that the Downhome Brew I had before this. The head is thin and just wanders off its slightly hazy body. This has a very slight cherry tinge from the yeast. That settles down and it finishes more like a plain ol’ lager.

Pour is golden with a very light head that doesn't stick around. The smell is lightly floral and malty, but not overly intense.

The flavour is a soft malt tone with a spicy hop edge. I don't get a lot more than that, but it's decent enough.

The mouthfeel and drinkability are both average for the style.

The bottom line: Not a bad shot at the style by Kraftbrau, but nothing overly impressive either.

Nice feel in the mouth and very crisp appearance. Aboslutely crystal clear look. Hop aroma very classic to style with a nice dry finish. Very god balance of malt taste. Very few American brewers seem to get this balance right but Kraftbrau has done it.

Really enjoyed this one would make a perfect session beer when the weather is a little warmer.

As much as I profess not to like Lagers/Pilsners, I must say that I'm not sure there's anything any more appealing than a Pilsner, fresh from the DBF, chilled to perfection, poured correctly into a room temperature Pilsner Glass, as it stands there all proud with its gold body crowned by a bright white head and the condensation forming and running down the glass, just makes your mouth water doesn't it?

The beer as it excavates itself from the 12 ounce brown bottle is the quintessential pilsner limpid gold color with a modest bright white head that is semi-creamy in texture, the lace forms a velum like curtain to drape the glass. Nose is the prototypical pilsner sweet malt, quite crisp and fresh to the senses, the start is slightly sweet, nice malt presence, and the top is fair to middling in its feel to the palate. Finish has a moderate acidity, the hops personable in their spiciness, quite dry and long lasting aftertaste. As I’m on the “Fat Boy” program, and I just finished an hours worth of PT, that’s “Physical Training” for you civilian types, this beer sure does hit the “B” Spot” and as I can have only one beer a day, I choose them quite carefully, and I must say a good choice on my part!

A solid lil beer from the "other" brewery in Kalamazoo. 12 oz bottle, I think it was $1.49.

Marked down on appearance because it took a long time to beat the head down enough to fit 12 oz in a pint glass. But after I got it down, it had a wonderful merangue like head, and nice clear golden color. Aroma of Saaz hops, which is right on for this style.

Taste is good, well balanced, walking a fine line.. I've had far too many overhopped Czech pils before... this one is nice.

Slightly creamy mouthfeel...

Drinkability... dangerously good. Slightly creamy and malty. I like this one.

Poured a nice clear gold with a bright white head that died down pretty quickly. Not too much carbonation. The smell was a bit floral, but that didn't come through in the taste at all. The taste was interesting, it at first reminded me of celery, and had a nice spiciness to it, with a rather light mouthfeel. Very drinkable, especially at 5% ABV.

Ahha! My first brew from Kraftbrau that wasn't a gusher! Pours out to a hazy pale-golden. Bottle conditioned lager. Forms a small white head with poor retention and absent lacing. Overwhelming aroma of latex rubber (kinda like a brand new inner-tube), followed by dried hay, crisp water, and a touch of cloves?! Mouthfeel is spicy and stinging with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste is quite odd for the style, but I like it. Starts with very potent florally spicy hops, followed by a distinct cloveiness, giving it an interesting, though unintentional Unibroue flavor, akin to a Belgian Pale Ale. The pale malts are delicate and followed by a strong floral bitterness with mild alcohol and grain astringency. Lingering bitterness and aroma of concentrated hop vines sans the flowers, otherwise cleanly fermented.

An odd brew, but likeable. I would gladly drink it again, but I really wouldn't consider it a Pilsener.
