On tap at the brewpub 10/10/13

Appearance: clear copper with a tiny off white head.

Nose: Big spicy hops, Very perfume-y. Sharp grapefruit rind, rosemary, dried lemon peel. Not your typical double IPA at all but really itneresting.

Taste: Tons of big grapefruit and lemon up front, but its not fresh fruit, more like dried peel. Lots of floral notes and spicy pepper. It tastes like a great English IPA taken to the next level in terms of hoppiness.

Mouthfeel: Nicely carbonated and fitting for the style.

Overall: This is one of my favorite F&M beers to date, and certainly my favorite "Of English Inspiration" thing so far. It's a unique, complex, and delicious take on a very tired style. I hope this becomes a regular on the tap list.

This beer would probably be more of an "English" DIPA if such a thing existed, since it appears to be a stepped up version of their Kinch IPA. Since the brewer called it a double IPA, I didn't think it belonged in the "English IPA" style category due to the strength, and American is the only style choice. So if you're looking for a West Cost style bitter hop bomb, you're not going to find it. But if you are familiar with the beers Forest and Main brews, that shouldn't surprise.

Served from the hand pump at cellar temperature at the brewpub, in a wine glass.

the beer appears a rusty copper color, a bit hazy, with thick off-white head. nose is definitely hop forward, floral and earthy. taste provides a nice balance of good malt backbone, enough biscuity and caramel flavors to balance the hops. mouthfeel is interesting due to the cask serving, a bit creamier and perception of full bodied. probably drinks too easy for the strength, so watch yourself. overall, definitely a tasty beer.
