Pale golden amber appearance, with haze in the body, made it clear, that this was a beer drawing on both IPA and wheat beer traditions. The smell was sweet, delicate, floral, and lightly citric. The taste struck a good balance between a Witbier and an IPA, as I could first detect bubblegum, banana, and a peppery yeast, and then got a dose of grapefruit, and some pine. This was not quite a thorough melding of the two style, but more of a layering effect, with two distinct waves of flavors. The mouthfeel was creamy and soft, being close to basically a Witbier, while the finish was drawn out hops similar to, but not quite as intense as an IPA. Nicely done blend of styles.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into pseudo-pint glass.

Appearance: Mostly clear light gold with decent head retention and slight lacing.

Smell: Tangy grapefruit, light toasted notes, some spiciness.

Taste: Tart and tangy grapefruit dominates along with some tropical notes. Toasted malt body and some Belgian-like spiciness, but really the "Belgian" seems limited. Somewhat bitter.

Feel: Light to medium body with ample carbonation. Nice, dry finish.

Overall: More a tangy grapefruit IPA vs. a true Belgian influenced IPA. No matter, it tastes very good.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
Pours slightly hazy, orange-amber, and with a rather weak head that leaves better than expected lacing.
Aroma; fruity with a hint of baked white bread and a touch of Belgian yeast. Subtle hops, perhaps connected to the dating: just past BB date.
Flavor: fruity and mildly spicy with a hop level on the low end of the range for style. Moderately complex.

O: tasty, interesting and easy drinking. Seems best classified as a BPA.

I acquired this as part of a "Tackle Box" consisting of four different Sweetwater Beers.

Bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Golden yellow with a good head that retreats to a strong lacing.

S - Citrus and pine with a hint of malt.

T - Citrus and pine start with a some Belgian yeast flavor to finish.

M - Very rich and creamy with good carbonation levels.

O - They claim it to be a 500 YO Belgian recipe hit with a truck load of hops and that is pretty much what you get. This is definitely worth having again.

A: An orange, golden, honey color. Not much carbonation from the glass. A tiny head and some lacing.

S: Tropical fruit, orange, pineapple, Piney and lemon.

T: Similar to the nose. But you get that Belgian yeast taste. It's sweet but balanced.

M: I think it's light. Although you don't see much carbonation in the glass, you feel the carbonation on your tongue. It's nice.

O: This beer isn't amazing and I wouldn't seek it out. But it's new, and I love what Sweetwater has to offer. I think it's solid and well balanced. I'd recommend you try it at least once.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau Dogfish Head IPA glass. Good till April 20th 2014.

Real nice crystal clear body, just the perfect amount of fine carbonation only rising up through the middle along a bronze colored bright brass body. Head is barely three fingers tall, very fine off white bubbles and some soapy retention. Pretty good looking beer.

Hop angle is very subtle, kind of a mushy tropical fruit sense. Some clove like spice a bit and even some woody like smoke hop angle. Not bad.

Palate just unfortunately doesn't seem to deliver. Comes off as a basic pale ale with some real chalky aftertaste. Hop forward, a little lime like in taste but not enjoyable. Very fleeting finish as well with a sort of dried out bread character, even stale tasting. Some faint citrus and tropical fruit somewhere that hides under a bit of lifeless flavor, slightly getting better as it warms.

Overall it's more of a weak pale ale, and doesn't really come across as anything even remotely different in this style.
