Brilliant golden with frothy ivory head.

Floral hops, resin, and citrus pith in aroma.

Citrus pith base, substantial bitterness at finish. Resiny underpinnings. Slightly harsh. Phenolic aftertaste.

Medium to med full body, carbonation a touch high, astringent finish, alcohol warmth.

Very flavorful. Not much Belgian character. Too bitter for my liking. Couldn't get past the phenols.

Poured from a bottle into a Goose Island tulip. The pour is pale orange, bordering on gold, and is fairly clear (a slight haze). The head is thinner than I'd like, but does retain nicely. The nose isn't too assertive, but does have some nice mild American hop aromas of oranges, pineapples, and lemons.

The beer has a rather light body and a fairly firm (slightly thin) feel. The flavor is predominantly hoppy, but has a little tartness to it as well. I definitely get the sharp, citrusy flavors of the Centennial hops and I'm glad the Cascade hops aren't over-done (not a big fan). The beer starts out tart and fruity up front with pineapple and orange notes and digs in with some bitterness in the back of the palate. The finish is also fruity. Very drinkable beer. Refreshing.

Not a bad offering from Sweetwater. It's not what I typically look for in an American IPA. It lacks a substantial malt backbone and feels a bit sharp and thin, but the flavor is rather nice. I like the fruity character of the hops and found this beer to be one you want to drink 2 or 3 of.

A: Had this beer on-tap, poured into a pint glass at Gene's Haufbrau. Had a pale yellow color and a cloudy consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Very good lacing.

S: A sweet aroma of citrus, light spices, and hops.

T: Tasted of some hops (not as much as in most IPAs), coriander, and citrus (orange). Like the aroma, the flavor was light and sweet. This beer actually tasted like a witbier with overtones of an IPA. Not a bad combination.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat slick finish. Light-bodied.

O: Definitely a different take on the IPA, but not unwelcome. It's light, refreshing and easy to like.

With an inspired spice, smoothness and drinkable demeanor, Sweetwater's Whiplash White IPA captures well the citrus and wheat flavor of Belgium, but also introduces American hops with an acidic bitterness that brightens the beer from its early aromas to its fleeting finish.

Opening with a richer-than-expected golden hue, its color is much more golden than canary, its appearance takes the shape of Belgian-style golden ale than of Witbier. As the beer settles in the glass, its head character holds semi-stern and dissolves only after the halfway point, and leaves random clumps of lacing behind.

Its perfumy aromatics are alive with rose pedals, citrus peels, delicately crushes coriander seeds, cardamom and honeysuckle. Its background of malt is of honey a light biscuit and gives the beer a lightly toasted scent. Along side, the fruity influences weave in with lemon, apple, delicate pineapple and apricot.

With a supple honey and thin caramel taste, the early palate is greeted with malt sweetness, toasted bread-type graininess and slight nutty character. Its richer bread and yeast character is modest but present but is also content to allow the fruit and spice to tell the tale thereafter. Orange peels, pear and apple share a stage with white pepper, clove, and cardamom for something that comes together like potpourri. As the spicy alcohol weaves in, a light detergent-like character prevails.

Early on, the beer's carbonation is high and zesty, but after it surpasses creamy and then subdued character the beer becomes more and more weighted on the palate. Its exuberent carbonation ushers in high drinkability for the first fleeting moments but after that, the beer is sweet and tacky, leaving fruit and honey lingering on the palate in less-than-preferred character. Minty-vanilla cooling/warmth causes gives the beer the reprieve that it sorely desires.

The ale is a little messy, but is still quite desirable as it does something compelling and unique- creamy-dry like American Ale, fruity and spicy like Belgian Ale and then with a clean perfume character that is somewhat flamboyant.

12 oz bottle into stein.

A: Clear, medium amber with about two fingers of bright white head with a little lacing on the glass.

S: Moderate pine notes along with fruits. Aromatic, but not quite hoppy enough to be an IPA.

T: Some citrus fruits and medium hopes. Tasty, but again, not remarkable. Somewhat of a residual hop aftertaste after it's drank.

M: Mouthfeel is light bodied, perfectly carbonated, really an excellent mouthfeel.

This is likable enough and not offensive at all, but it feels like Sweetwater really played it safe and went the moderate route. Not sure it's worth a purchase over other white IPAs this yar like accumulation.

finally cold in Florida , picked up the tacklebox from Sweetwater Brewing a sampler pack we havent tried before to go along with chili, homemade bread this evening.

poured into a malt glass strong fine carbo. with heavy lacing as swirled
settles quickly appears natural carbonation so far almost amber appearance.

nose- cascade hops and another i can't ID citrusy nose

described on the bottle as a wreck between a 300 year old Belgian style and a pompous American hop collision
I have grown to like the Sweetwater Brews they have continued to Impress me and and in price range for the average working guy who cant afford the $6-12 a bottle craft beer err i like to call them microbreweries still.. you want to steer bud drinkers? this is how ..good flavor ale you'll purchase again and it's not junk
i give them a 4 across the board

Nice work and cheers to the brewmaster

A - Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a finger of near white head. good retention, fantastic lacing.

S - Minimal caramel sweetness, biscuity malts, lighter grassy/floral hops. Smells very fresh and refreshing. Maybe even a hint of grapefruit.

T - Light citrus and grassy hops, very very clean drinking. A bit of clovey spice.

M - Light bodied, certainly well carbonated, great drink ability.
