Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau Dogfish Head IPA glass. Good till April 20th 2014.
Real nice crystal clear body, just the perfect amount of fine carbonation only rising up through the middle along a bronze colored bright brass body. Head is barely three fingers tall, very fine off white bubbles and some soapy retention. Pretty good looking beer.
Hop angle is very subtle, kind of a mushy tropical fruit sense. Some clove like spice a bit and even some woody like smoke hop angle. Not bad.
Palate just unfortunately doesn't seem to deliver. Comes off as a basic pale ale with some real chalky aftertaste. Hop forward, a little lime like in taste but not enjoyable. Very fleeting finish as well with a sort of dried out bread character, even stale tasting. Some faint citrus and tropical fruit somewhere that hides under a bit of lifeless flavor, slightly getting better as it warms.
Overall it's more of a weak pale ale, and doesn't really come across as anything even remotely different in this style.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a crystal clear dark gold with just a small fizzy head. Not really any head retention and just a few wisps of lacing on the sides of the glass. I'm a little disappointed with the appearance on this one.
The aroma more than makes up for what the appearance lacks. A huge hit of juicy, tropical fruit in the nose with some pleasant Belgian yeasty undertones. Not a ton of malt but this is really nice.
The flavor is just as great of the aroma. Lots of juicy fruit mixed with a bit of yeast spiciness. Grapefruit and orange dominate along with some orange peel and coriander. Bitterness is high and does well in balancing out the sweetness. Not much malt flavor but it isn't really missed.
Overall, I wish I would have tried this sooner. What an awesome IPA. Sweetwater never fails to disappoint with just about every beer they release.
