This mammoth IPA is defined by generous quantities of juicy American hops. The extensive dry hopping process contributes to its bright and flavorful character. This beer is unfiltered to leave all the natural flavors intact and bottle conditioned to stay super fresh.

APPEARANCE: Opaque, deep copper with a thin head that perfectly fit into a snifter when poured from a 12oz. bottle. Full disclosure here, the bottle on this one does say "best if enjoyed by: 12/26/10", but my guess is that it is still good on Jan. 11.
SMELL: I smelled the sweet aroma of hops as soon as I poured this one. I like IPAs like this - floral, piney and citrus smelling. All the best an IPA has to offer. The "extensive dry hopping" mentioned on the bottle seems to have done its job.
TASTE: Starts out far more bitter than expected and sweetens throughout the sip. The sweet flavor is a very mild citrus with caramel and pine dominating. There is no mistake about this being an IPA. The aftertaste is dry and bitter with an odd hint of orange.
MOUTHFEEL: This could be a product of the age of the beer, but the mouthfeel seems to be the weak point with the Sweetwater IPA. It lacks the sparkle I generally prefer and is fairly mouth coating. Not bad by any means, but not as solid as the rest of this beer's characteristics are.
OVERALL: Sweetwater is one of the few things I have ever enjoyed from Atlanta, Georgia. I've got some horrific memories attached to that city and state, but the Sweetwater IPA is good enough to make me forget that for a moment. If I'm ever stuck there, I know how I'm passing the time. Like their other beers I've tried the IPA is amongst the best in the South.

Can says to enjoy before two weeks from now. No idea if that means this is three months old or longer.
Pours like I mean it, leaving a nice cap of foam topping a light caramel colored beer. Low aroma, one I’m straining to find, with a faded citrus and pine hop profile. It seems like something I’d find 20 years ago, maybe longer.

Pours a toasted golden color with a big rocky off-white head. Some soapy lacing on the glass.
A mix of floral and piney hops in the aroma. A little bit of bud and perhaps mint. Bright.
A light toasted malt. A bit heavier than most IPAs. The hops are earthy with light pine notes.
The malt is a beefy on the palate. Fairly balanced but finishes with a earthy bitterness.
Misses the mark on style. More of a hoppy APA. The malt is quite substantial. Its good though.

Appearance: Slightly hazy amber. Big fluffy white head with good retention. Fast rising bubbles.
Aroma: Citrus, pine and grassy.
Flavor: Citrus, pine and grassy. Medium to low sweetness. Moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Low Astringency, soft on the palate by finishes dry. Moderate length finish.
Overall: An iconic IPA out of GA. Initial aromas are of citrus (grapefruit-like) and pine; however, as it warms and aerates, you begin to pick up additional aromas, of which fresh cut grass was most noticeable. The tastes are just as complex. You get a nice malty sweetness intermixed with citrus, pine and herbs. None of which are powerful or offensive. It finishes semi-dry with a short, eloquent bitterness. Perfectly balanced and harmonized. Nothing boring or harsh in this IPA start to finish. One of my favorites.
