When this beer is fresh, I have a hard time finding a better regularly available IPA. I have had bottles with the same born on date taste completely different. Always amazing when I've had it on tap. (201 characters)

12oz can, BIEB 09/06/15
A - hazed brilliany amber body with a tall and rocky ivory head that holds great retention
S - huge citrusy grapefruit & orange aroma with pine, caramel malt and bready malt
T - hop forward with a bold malt backbone: pine, grapefruit & orange rind and pith, some spicy hop notes in there also, caramel and bread try to balance out the bitterness with some needed sweetness
M - medium body, prickles the tongue, moderate carbonation, finishes bitter with pine, citrus zest, and spicy hop lingering
O - this exceeded expectations! Really nice with flavors I enjoy in my IPA! (596 characters)

(8/7 Bottle) - Hazy, light orange pour, hops and pine aroma. Taste of citrus, pine, hops, and malt extremely pleasant and easy to drink and enjoy. Overall excellent offering by Sweetwater. (188 characters)

Copper color pour. Tropical fruit nose. Medium mouth feel with slight bitter finish. Overall exactly what I was in the mood for on a 95 degree afternoon in Atlanta. (164 characters)

Love the pine notes in this one. It's rare that I can find an IPA that isn't fruity anymore. Well done and will definitely be having more. Recommended especially if you want a change of pace, easy drinking IPA. (210 characters)

Pours a slightly hazy amber with a quite reasonable head. Well balanced east coast IPA with mild hops and a nice finish. Dangerous in that it is so easy to drink. (165 characters)

A- Golden pour from the bottle into two glasses. The crown is white, thick and creamy with good retention. Large lace sheets.

S- Citrus hops off the top with a dank and fresh floral edge. Mostly those hops but also a light Crystal grain sweetness. Warmth brings slight mango.

T- All of the elements really balance out here and flavors seem to cascade on and off the taste buds opening up for each other. Citrus fruits, mango, flowers, oranges, sweet zest, dank herbs, yeast bread, pale malts and a light sweetness.

MF- Creamy consistency to the medium bodied brew. Carbonation isn't quite on the high side but it is close and finds a sweet spot with the flavors present.

An impressive effort for a balanced IPA and especially a bottle conditioned one. Hits tones of citrus, stone fruit, floral hops and just enough pale grains. Never heard much about this and wish I could drink it more often as an end of the day relaxer. (926 characters)

Sweetwater IPA - SweetWater Brewing Company. Poured from a tall can into a weizen glass, this beer's head is two fingers thick and rather frothy with secular lacing, and hazy amber body.

I smell a fair portion of west coast style hops, only can detect a small malt complex.

Tastes like a nice portion of citrus-like grapefruit-y hops that get rounded off just before getting too sharp for the beer's own good by the witbier aspects included. This a very enjoyable balance of attributes, in my opinion.

The mouthfeel I'm getting here is clean and crisp. It would certainly hit the spot on a hot day.

Overall, I'll give Sweetwater IPA - SweetWater Brewing Company a 4.5. This is a refreshing unfiltered American IPA that will probably be enjoyed by me throughout the summer months. (795 characters)

Sweetwater IPA brewed by SweetWater Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.30% This brew pours out a nice cloudy light brown color, with a nice off white head. This is an unfiltered brew. The smell of Sweetwater IPA is rich with hops, grain and malts. There is also some citrus in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste, it is bitter , sweet. You pick up the bitterness in the hops , but there is a nice sweetness at the end of this brew. There is a lot going on in Sweetwater IPA, it has a nice balance to it. SweetWater Brewing Company did a nice job with this one, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. I like how Sweetwater IPA is different from most IPA's on the market. The mouthfeel is full bodied with hops and grains. This is a nice drinking brew, I would buy this brew again. Overall I'm giving Sweetwater IPA a 4.5 out of 5. (854 characters)

Juicy hops in the nose, with some malt sweetness once the head dissipates. Carbonic acid, followed by hops and malt. Finishes with citrusy hops flavor. Solid brew. (166 characters)

This one was right up there with Jai Alai for me. Very similar in the respect that it was all fruit and hops. This one was more about the citrus flavors though, with a huge grapefruit presence, while Jai Alai was more on the tropical fruit flavors side.

Would absolutely purchase again. (288 characters)

12oz bottle into a pint.

A: Nice, slightly hazy gold with 1 1/2" foamy white head that recedes slowly. Lacing & retention looking good.

S: Citrus & fruity hops. A bit of caramel. Slightly floral notes, spring-like aromas.

T: Lemon, then lime, then grapefruit. Consistently balanced throughout the mid palate, the finish is more on the resinous, slick side with a nice little hop-bitter bite. Not much in the way of malt notes here beyond a bit of wholegraininess that sits underneath everything else.

M: High-ish carb & a body on the ever-so-lighter side of medium. I actually like the level of carb in this brew. Overall pretty dry.

O: This is just a really nice, well-balanced, citrusy IPA. Super quaffable. (728 characters)

Deserves higher ratings, this IPA is very well balanced. Nice sweet malty notes with some assertive hops. For the money, I'd make this a regular session beer for my fridge. You know how IIPAs usually have that stronger malt backbone, kind of reminds me of that, just in a lower ABV brew. Cheers! (298 characters)

Appearance: Clean golden amber with rich head of nearly white carbonation. Thick head of loopy lace.

Aroma: Pungent grapefruit and tropical hops. Quite nice.

Taste: Citrus-hoppy with virtually no bitterness at all. I get some tropical notes (pineapple) in the mix, too, which is certainly welcomed. A very delicious and worthy IPA, and one I’d enjoy more often if it were available in my area of Indiana. (408 characters)

Pour was a 16oz from tap at Mellow Mushroom. This is a very serviceable session IPA. A little lighter and less hoppy than most IPA's, this beer is easy to knock back and is a goo summertime beer to enjoy outside or with a burger or slice. (241 characters)

Good beer and for the money can't be beat. Brewery is just a state away and enjoy most of their brews. Suggested a trip to see them if in the ATL area. (152 characters)

From the 16oz can dated 12/31/14
L: Cloudy and lively. Lots of carbonation and nice head that broke into a moonscape rather than flat. Bubbly like a soda. Chunks as well.
S: Faded grapefruit scent, not much else
F: Foamy with slight bitter, a little sweet like candy
T: Subdued. Balanced without any flavor really taking control. They say on the can it's a "kick-you-in-the-teeth hop chop". I wouldn't put it in that category except to people new to the IPA. Grapefruit hops.
O: Good IPA, but nothing really deep or above average. Solid. (540 characters)

12 oz. bottle, with enjoy by date of 10/2015 printed on the label. My second beer from SweetWater Brewing Company, out of Atlanta.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - It pours a dark coppery orange body with about a finger and a half of foamy fluffy off-white head. Leaves lots of thin webbed lacing all over the glass. Looks very nice.

S - Not a particularly intricate or amazing aroma, but it hits it's mark I suppose. Bready, floral, piney, grassy, soapy, juicy citrus fruit presence (orange, grapefruit, etc.)

T - The taste follows the nose: bready malt base, and juicy, fruity, resinous, piney hop presence. Oranges, mangoes, grapefruit, pine, slight sugary sweetness. Lots of hop bitterness, but nicely balanced with the bready malt bill.

M - The feel is crisp, smooth, bitter, piney, & resinous on the finish. Slightly dry, which beckons the palate for another sip. Medium-bodied and very easy drinking.

Overall, a nice IPA offering from SweetWater. Fairly average, but a very solid example of the style. Would definitely be able to drink this one again and again.

L- beautiful amber orange with soapy white head
S- grapefruit, hops, malt
T- this brew is awesome. Very well balanced between the fruity hippiness and the malt. A fine example of an IPA!
F- medium body medium carbonation. Smooth.
O- awesome brew! Would definitely be on my list to seek out over and over! (306 characters)

S: Malty aromas, astringent off gasing.
M: syrupy foam. Pleasant.
A: orange tinged clarity. Unfiltered yet minimal residue from brew. Looks filtered.
T: orange up front, bitter aftertaste that leaves you thirsty for more. Approaching singular citrusy flavoring, not very complex still one of the better iPa's that I've seen at most non microbrew carrying grocery stores. Would buy again but usually if either stone or something a bit more appealing to my particular taste weren't available. (491 characters)

Pours a dark golden yellow with a frothy white head. The smell is very hoppy, sweet, with nice citrus notes. Unfortunately, the smell isn't very aromatic. The taste compensates with a big flavor, hoppy up front, slightly bitter on the finish that sticks around. A nice medium body, the mouthfeel is not as smooth as it could be, but it still adds a great dimension to the beer. Overall a nice ipa, very enjoyable. (415 characters)

Pours a crystal clear golden amber with a little bit of chill haze that quickly goes away as it warms and finger of straight white foam.

Citrus rind, resin, lemon, grapefruit, and little bit of a toasted biscuit sweetness.

Has a great citrus meets pine flavor, worth noting is the grapefruit, lemon, resin, pine combo that's not too bitter and matches well with the biscuity malt backbone.

Light-bodied, medium-high carbonation, soft, smooth, but the subtly leaves the palate wanting a bit more from the mouthfeel.

I've long wanted to sample some of the offerings from SweetWater, but their non-presence in Chicago left that want unsatisfied. However, SweetWater distro just reached the Chicagoland area and I'm glad they did! This is a very solid IPA, nothing that screams mind blowing, but well balanced and interesting enough to make this adding to my list of go-to IPAs. (878 characters)

Pours a clear amber color with a thick foamy head. Head retention is decent. Lacing is good. There is a lot of precipitate. Has a fresh citrus aroma; grapefruit, lemon, resin. Malty taste up front with a piney hop burst at the end. A grapefruit/lemon aftertaste predominates. Mild soapy astringency but not overwhelming. Perfect amount. Great beer. Glad to have them in Texas now. (390 characters)

Poured into the Spiegelau. 4/19/15 enjoy by date. Weed joke, or actual freshness date, I don't rightly know... but I do know that I can't pick fresh IPAs with a gun to my head. 3 fingers of beige head on a golden body, crystal clear (despite being marketed as unfiltered). Astringent pine on the sinuses, bitterness, and an alarming savory hop note (comes off as a cheese aroma to me, more interesting than off-putting, but definitely from the 'dank/earthy' hop varieties; have gotten the same aromas in Six-Point Hi-Res and a couple of others that escape me at the moment; more of a headscratcher than a deal breaker). Clean bitterness on the front of the palate, bit of that dank hop note on the finish. Average IPA mouthfeel with a couple of slightly odd lingering flavors (yeasty bit). Nothing special in the wide world of IPAs, but I wouldn't refuse a fresh bottle at a BBQ. Wouldn't trade my firstborn for one though. (923 characters)
