Pours a brilliant deep golden with copper highlights and a lingering, frothy ivory head.

Resin, fresh cut grass, citrus, and that Amarillo savory note form the initial aroma. Earthy hop character, pine, cannabis, and body odor emerge later.

Flavor reveals more fresh cut grass, with a citrusy background, on a bed of lightly nutty caramel malt, which becomes resiny and slightly bitter at the finish. Muted grapefruit and sour orange contrast the toasted bread notes well. Bitterness is not overpowering, but lingers.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation and a touch of harshness from the hops.

More earthy and grassy than citrusy, it's like a Chilean sauvignon blanc vs a Marlborough sb. There's enough citrus to add intrigue, but not dominate. Malt is present and identifiable for somewhat more than support. Probably the best I've had from Sweetwater.

Thanks, HeyOhhh!

While a decent IPA from the South, these simply don't stack up to the hop bombs brewed on the West Coast. Moderate bitterness, somewhat faded citrus hops in the background, and sweet, caramel malts. Nothing bad, and well made, but disappointing as well. Decent enough, but unexciting. Regardless, I'm very glad I got to try this.

Appearance- Pours a reddish gold with half inch head that recedes quickly, leaves little lacing.

Smell- Strong smell of grapefruit and citrus. No malt or resiny hops detected.

Taste- Fruit bomb. Strong taste of grapefruit and bubble gum along with some lemon notes. Very tasty with just a enough citrus bitterness.

Mouthfeel- A bit heavy for the style but it woks. Very good carbonation.

Overall- Pretty good IPA, not your typical hop bomb though. Strong grapefruit flavor with very little malt character.

Happy National IPA day

A: Pours a crystal clear orangish yellow with 2 fingers width of slightly off white colored head. Decent retention before dissipating down. Leaves a moderate amount of honeycomb lacing.

S: Dank, resinous hops, citrus, tropical fruit, sweet malts. Excellent.

T: Piney bitterness and citrus rind. Some grapefruit, orange peel. Floral hops.

M/D: Full bodied, moderation carbonation, smooth, good drinkability. Great mouthfeel.

O: Ive not a huge fan of Sweetwater but this is a really good IPA. Pleasantly surprised here. I'd drink this one again.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a bright orange colored brew with a fine clarity. White head forms and leaves a bit of lace on the pint. Active carbonation rises busily to the surface.

Smell: The fairly strong aroma is of piney, resinous hops, grapefruit, almost metallic, floral, orange and other fruits.

Taste: Hop flavor upfront, quite nice and bitter. Good bite of hops with suggestions of pink grapefruit, pine, resin, and orange rind. To taper the hops there is a biscuity, neutral malt backing.

Feel: Light to medium bodied, quite smooth and crisp. Carbonation is high but not overly so. Refreshing and quaff worthy.

Overall: Sweetwater IPA is a solid interpretation of the style. Nice hop profile, and a lighter body. Thanks Scarci for sending me the samples!
