A pilsner style beer with an ale yeast, hmm now thats different.Poured lighter lemony yellow with a fluffy egg shell colored one finger white head that left broken lace as it settled into a creamy mass.A mix of toasted bread dough with a bit of sweetness and iron/mineral,very pilsner-like.Flavors are crisp with that doughy character,a nice shot of herbal hop gives a nice spicy smack in the finish.A different kind of hybrid thats pretty good,I would buy again.

I like double pilsners....this isn't one of them.

Pours a clear straw color with a one finger head. Very mild aroma is primarily biscuits, grains, and earthy florals. Taste is very malty with grass and some hop bite. Astringency ruins the beer. A little too heavy for a summer seasonal for my taste. I didn't finish the bottle.

12oz brown bottle w/ a freshness date on the label.

Quick head rises to the top, bright golden yellow lays on the lighter side of color. Hint of fresh herbs, wild flowers and faint apple mixes with dusty graininess in the nose. Crisp and clean palate, moderate sized body. Grainy and biscuity with a snap with intensifies for a second as the hop bitterness chimes in. Flavor soon fade into the finish, a dry lightly grainy finish at that.

A tasty hybrid brew of sorts, good substitute of there are no authentic pilsners available.

Outward appearance points to a good craft pilsner. Taste is solid pilsner with a nice citrus hops bite to it.

Mouthfeel is really "wet", not dry or oil-slick- and with its flavors it adds up to something *very* refreshing on a hot day without giving up the full-bodied flavor I want out of an ale.

Sweetwater's seasonal ales tend to be either a hybrid style or something completley new, which makes them hard to objectivley review. As either a pilsner or an IPA alone, this beer would be good. Yet, it's not really either of those things, and it excels at the style that it creates.

I find myself buying it repeatedly because it's unique and really works with this typical Georgia summer.

Easy-drinking, enjoyable beer. On-tap, poured clean, light-straw colored appearance with a big, frothy head. Aroma was light and woody, with a note of hops. This was a smooth, crisp, clean tasting beer, with a mild hop presence but a good bitter sensation. Would make for a great session beer.

Picked this up at Green's last month.
Pours a nice lighter yellow color with a decent foamy head. Active carbonation with bubbles constantly rising.
Aroma-Smells pilsnerish, lager-like. Sharper hoppy notes that are not very strong.
Mouthfeel-Medium hop bitterness hits the tongue and finishes clean. The label says it started as a Pilsner and by golly it sure retains almost all of the charcteristics. Crisp hoppiness, clean finish. A froth on the plate releases some sweet malt flavors. The ale yeast maybe took some of the bite off this one. Very tasty, thirst-quenching, a lawnmower beer for sure. Sessionable too.

Got this from a six pack from Green's in Atlanta.

Pours a yellow/gold color with a small white head that diminishes to a layer of bubbles almost immediately. There's some lacing there, but only after an aggressive pour.

The smell is not all that great. It smells like musty grass with a certain tang to it.

The taste is better than the smell - kind of like a smooth pilsner. There's a little bit of malty sweetness in there, along with some hop bitter. Pretty crisp.

The mouthfeel is alright, there's not as much carbonation as a normal pilsner, but the thickness (or lack thereof) is about the same.

The drinkability suffers because of the smell. Other than that it's pretty good - crisp and not too heavy.

Overall this isn't that good of a beer. There are better pilsners out there, and I can't really discern the purported ale portion of the beer. Worth a try, but I wouldn't buy an entire 6 pack.

Thanks to gunnerman for this beer best before 8/10/09 (and opened before that)
A- This beer pours a clear but very dense tangerine body with a snow white head that is bubble and is supported by a sea of micro-bubbles.
S- This beer has a soft musty but more fruity note to the raw barley and pale malt aroma. There is a field corn note that comes through as the beer warms. There is a green lemon hop hint that is slightly sulfury in the finish.
T- This beer has a soft mellow sulfury note with a light lemon hop quality. There is a pale honey malt note that turns a bit dryer as it warms.
D- This beer has some nice lager qualities that keep this beer mellow and smooth with some nice fruity ale hints as well. There is a nice flavor as the beer is cool but when it warms there is a bit of the bitey sulfur and field corn that comes through.

one of my favorite seasonals....

the color is piss yellow....nice german pilsner smell but they def...used an ale yeast on this one....i think this year they changed up the recipe a little...the water taste a little more hard...and the malt bill seems less...the hops are right on german noble hops....saaz, hallertau....etc.. strong bitterness too...

overall i think this is a different beer from one year to the next!

Color is bright golden orange, clear with visible carbonation bubbles rising up to the white head. Smell is interesting. Spice and light bread malt, nuts, dank and earthy, grassy and dry with grape and other fruits. Pilsner gone ale style indeed. Taste is entertaining also. A lot of earthiness again with lemon, fruit, and spice on smooth malts. There's a hefty amount of grassy dryness followed by bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth, prickly, dry, and a little gritty. Drinkability is no problem.

Not bad and a rather interesting concoction.
