bottle into Duvel glass

appearance: dark mahogany with a hint of amber, bubbly 1 finger white head

smell: bready, sweet malt, molasses, hint of caramel, hazelnut, apple cider

taste: some subtle bready notes, somewhat roasty malt backbone, the taste ends too soon, leaves you hanging and wanting more. With that said, this is a highly drinkable session brown ale to me, not huge in the flavor department but high in smoothness and drinkability. Perhaps too balanced, needs a prominent flavor.

mouthfeel: not much carbonation, thick creamy full bodied feel

overall: An average brown ale, highly drinkable. Non craft beer enthusiats would love this, very accesible flavor profile, not a whole lot happening. Great for a hot summer day, would buy again but no need to seek this out or anything.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into pseudo-pint glass.

Appearance: Dark reddish-brown with decent head.

Smell: Caramel, chocolate and molasses. A little faint.

Taste: Strong semi-sweet malty core of chocolate and molasses. Nice core, but that's about all there is. Some light nutty and spicy notes on the finish, but the key word is light.

Feel: Medium body, fairly smooth with moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall: Decent Brown Ale that could us a little more hops and/or nuttiness to combat the sweet malts.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Best before April 20th 2014.

A deep red brown body, nearly blood red but with lots of mahogany color. Head forms about three fingers and settles quickly to two fingers tall, but there's a real thick creamy character to it nearly nitro looking. Some lined snake like lacing hits the glass as I drink. Fairly good looking brown.

The bouquet doesn't bring much. Quiet down here, I get a faint molasses and a little caramel, no toast, hop, nutty quality, nothing. Some faint cinnamon sweetness and cream is just struggling to make a presence.

Palate comes really surprising. I am getting next to nothing. A soft mild hop herbality with zero malt presence. There's some coating depth, and a little bit of leafy tea like character in this but the flavors are next to nothing when tasting. Some warmth brings out caramel sweetness that only just seems watered down.

Overall, where's the toast and nut? Comes off like a neutral beer which is even more surprising for a brown ale.
