The appearance was a bit too light for brown ale. It was mostly amber to light brown with a smallish head. There was also something a little off putting about the smell, but I cant put my finger on it. The taste was thankfully much better than the smell. Malty, nutty and roasty with a hint of sourness. If the body was more substantial, Id rank it even higher. I am tasting it side by side with Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale. The Samuel Smiths beer is definitely much better.
I drank another the next day at a different temperature by warming it under tap water. At near room temperature, the unpleasant notes in the smell disppeared and it became a much better session beer. Still not the best brown ale, but much more passable.
