Pours golden in color, with a very faint haze. Not nearly as hazy or cloudy as a beer of this style should be. No head retention, but thats okay with this one.

Smells like a decent to good hefe... just doesnt quite look like one.

The taste is of your basic hefeweizen, banana esters, pear esters, a bit of cloves.

SOLID carbonation. Thats the attribute of this beer I am most impressed with is the carbonation. Very fizzy, prickly carbonation throughout the session, which makes for a highly refreshing beer on a hot summer day. (535 characters)

Poured into a Weizen glass. Surprisingly small white head despite a moderate pour - head retreated quickly. Huge banana with some yeast and wheat on the nose. Taste was bold, with more banana and some yeast with breadiness that faded into a soft finish. Seemed a bit one-dimensional compared to the classics, but a nice summer drink. (334 characters)

12oz bottle. 8/23/15 code date. Appearance: Golden and nearly clear, with a quickly dissipating foam cap. No apparent yeast left in the bottle. Aroma: Apple and pear esters dominate, more typical of Belgian yeast than German. Typical banana and clove is missing. Taste: Sweet, spicy Apple and pear esters abound. Bitterness only enough to offset the sweetness Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with only the slightest creaminess. Carbonation is low for the style. Finish: Lingering pear and spice, with a hint of graininess on the tongue. Overall: Decent beer, but kisses them ark for what I’d expect from a hefe. No yeast present in bottle, low carbonation, and yeast character skews more Belgian than German (709 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.
This beer has a nice golden color with a medium sized white head.
The aroma is of wheat and malt with little to no hop or yeast backing
The flavor is of semi-sweet wheat.
The palate is medium bodied with moderate carbonation with a slightly oily texture
Overall- An average hefeweizen, I find most Sweetwater brews over-rated. (379 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 2.25 | taste: 2.75 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy golden color. The head is a finger high and white in shade. While retention isn't great, it's slightly better than other in the style. Lots of lacing sticks to the glass, as well. (3.5)

Smell: Hrm. It offers some of the usual hefeweizen notes (wheat, clove, banana) along with an additional touch of coriander, but there seems to be something off about it. Wait, now it hits me - this is cardboardy. Dammit. This would have been decent otherwise, but the cardboard tanks it. (2.25)

Taste: I'm happy to report the flavor profile seems less cardboard-esque. But I'm also sad to report I still get some of that unwanted flavor. It starts off with a combination of wheat and candied sugar, before transitioning into a slightly spicy finish. Think clove with a touch of supporting coriander. Cardboard is ever omnipresent, too. This isn't a very good hefeweizen. (2.75)

Mouthfeel: This doesn't seem that crisp or dry. The carbonation is good, but that doesn't help much. The whole thing just feels insipid and hard to drink. (2.5)

Overall: I love great causes. I don't love this beer. It tastes better than it smells - and that's about it. This is pretty low on the totem pole as far as hefeweizens go. I'll be hard pressed to even drink this again...and that's a shame - what a great cause to support. (2.5)

2.6/5: Good intentions don't equate to a good hefeweizen (1,426 characters)

Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen - SweetWater Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is two fingers thick and off-white, with solid lacing, and a hazy, pure gold body.

Smells like a nice blend of bright grains and earthy malts.

I taste attributes of a properly constructed hefeweizen- clove, banana esters, and a touch bubblegum. These guys have done a very nice job at executing the profile of these style in the taste department. Great balance and finish to this brew

This beer's mouthfeel is clean and smooth. Nice job, "clean water" :)

Overall, I'll give Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen - SweetWater Brewing Company a 4.25. I hope to see this in individual packaging, as I got this out of Sweetwater's Tackle Box. (770 characters)

Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen brewed by SweetWater Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.70% This brew pours out a cloudy amber color with a nice white head. This is an unfiltered brew, you can not see though it. The smell rich with flavors and sweetness. You pick up on hops and grains. This is a real inviting brew. Now for the taste it is rich a nice, smooth sweetness of fruits and grains. You pick up banana, and other fruits in the taste of this brew. The mouthfeel of Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen, is Bold, rich and Smooth. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a nice balance to it. I like how this brew is different from most brews on the market. SweetWater Brewing Company did a nice job with this one. Overall I'm giving Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen, a 4.25 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. (843 characters)

I was skeptical when everyone was saying "banana" but there it is. Not overpowering and not that awful artificial banana flavoring so it was surprisingly tasty. Maybe not something I'd go out of my way to buy again but I'm glad I drank it. (239 characters)

Pours a hazy light amber with a moderate white head. Nose to me says hefeweizen. Flavor talks banana and wheat, hence: hefeweizen to me. Gutes bier! (152 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Bright gold with head that refuses to give up, settles to a nice covering but lingers and clings to glass - pure white, could have a little more depth to the color but good

S: Not much a yeast aroma, mostly clean malt and a very light grassy hop

T: Similar to the aroma, but the yeast definitely comes through here, still dominated by a smooth sweet wheat flavor, a little sweet after a few tastes

F: Has nice creamy body to it, but finishes dry, good for a taste, but not great for the whole glass

O: A solid hefeweizen but that's it (578 characters)

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bananas, wheat. Taste is delicious. Banana, cloves, spices, some wheat, glass is becoming empty quickly. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a very good beer. (263 characters)

This is a fine and well executed Hef. Nothing spectacular in the flavor profile but it was done very well to the style. Body has a tinge of fizziness which distracts a little. Otherwise, flavorful and enjoyable. (214 characters)

Favorite style of mine. Decent smell with a good taste. Something is a little off but I can't put my finger on what it is. Just not as clean and smooth as many hefe. Sweet but not a lot more to offer in the taste. Overall this is a pretty good beer but nothing special. Would certainly not turn this down if offered but not one that I would seek out. (356 characters)

Pours an orange to copper color in a weizen glass with a nice head that dissipates slowly leaving a little lacing down the glass.

Smell is of spice, clove, orange and banana. Smell is not overpowering but there is enough that you can appreciate it.

Taste is of the spices and clove with the orange and banana coming in during the middle of the taste then a biscuity bread taste at the end.

Mouthfeel is a little watery but with enough body to appreciate. Carbonation was decent when I poured the beer but was pretty tame by the end of the glass.

Overall, a really nice beer but nothing to write home about. I like the beer and would be willing to buy it again if I was looking for a craft Hefeweizen. (718 characters)

Sweetwater Waterkeeper Hefeweizen has a thin, white head (small shelf glass), a very hazy (powdery sediment suspended throughout), yellow-gold appearance, bubble streams, and a small amount of lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is of spiced white bread, coriander, and a touch of lemon peel. Taste is of those elements, with some banana pudding, orange chutney, a shade of hop bitterness, and white pepper. Mouthfeel is medium and fluffy, and Sweetwater Waterkeeper finishes dry, easy going, and refreshing.

Poured a honey, golden hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy off-white head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Below average lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the top.

Smelled banana, cloves, kiwi, caramel, slight butterscotch, melon, Circus Peanuts and green grapes.

Tasted pretty close to the nose. Got cloves, banana, Circus Peanuts, kiwi, green grapes, caramel, melon, tropical notes and sweet candied notes.

Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Abrupt, fruity finish.

Really liked this Hefe. (769 characters)

Appearance: pale golden yellow; effervescent; big frothy long lasting white head

Smell: smells great; normal Hefeweizen notes, but something is a little off for the style. Can't figure out what it is; smells good though

Taste: Good malty start with Hefeweizen yeast notes; some banana, clove and citrus, too. But finishes with a bit of cream corn flavor; throws it off, but the beer is still tasty

Mouthfeel: fairly malty for the style with a bit more lingering sweetness than normal for the style

Remarks: you can tell it's not a true Bavarian Hefeweizen, but I liked it pretty good; I'd definitely buy it again (617 characters)

Appearance- Yellow, hay colored with a small head and slight retention. Not as hazy as your standard hefeweizen.

Smell- Light smell with banana in the forefront and some clove.

Taste- Well balanced with no flavor completely dominating the palate. Banana and wheat in the forefront.

Mouthfeel- Light body with a somewhat sour aftertaste that is not unpleasant.

Overall- A well balanced and drinkable hefeweizen. A very solid beer that I will certainly buy again. (468 characters)

Golden, not as hazy as typical hefe's; I would almost call this a Krystalweitzen, much more clear than typical American craft attempts at this, and I am ok with that.

the aromas is not overwhelming, also a plus compared to the over the top nonsense usually out there. Some of the usual banana, clove, citrus, but definitely more subtle than most

The taste wins it for me, almost background notes only, which I like, some banana and clove, but not overwhelming

crisp and very drinkable, refreshing as most wheats are or should be.

Kudos to an American Brewery that has several entries besides IPAs!!! (604 characters)

ive really started to like hefeweizen's lately so when i saw this one i picked it up- it says it benefits the "waterkeeper alliance." i havn't ever heard of the waterkeeper, but bc of this beer i looked it up- so it succeeded in raising my awareness. also this isnt a bad beer either. it has all the crispness and spiciness of a hefeweizen and it supports a good cause- cant go wrong with that. (394 characters)

"This free flowing Hefeweizen is our tribute to the great work of Waterkeepers across the globe, and a reminder that we all need to pitch in to protect one of Earth's most vital natural resources: clean water. Drink, skinny dip, brew, fish. Help save our waters." This charity ale finally reached full-time summer seasonal status in 6 packs for 2013 after spending a few years in incredibly limited-release bombers. A portion of the proceeds goes towards the Waterkeeper Alliance that work to keep local rivers, like the Chattahoochee clean. Brewed in the style of a Hefeweizen.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served north of 52º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a sizable crisp frothy head of an ivory complexion over a pale gold amber body. Despite very mild haze, this beer has high clarity for a Hefeweizen. Carbonation is light and mellow. Retention is above average, with light spotty lacing. It's a pretty solid beer in terms of appearance, despite not necessarily falling in line with the style. 4

(Smell) Very reminiscent of a hefeweizen, with a moderate banana bread yeast profile, clean spices and very low esters or off flavors. A wheat base profile with a mild cracker malt peeking through. Balance is slightly sweet over light, but not cloyingly so. Lack of flavor diversity may be a valid concern, but in terms of simple, quaffable and clean German styles, this one does a fine job. 3.75

(Taste) Wheat malt is far more pronounced in the flavor, very clean, mildly sweet- arguably the centerpiece of the flavor. Yeast characters are further subdued- banana is toned down, leaving room for a now balanced clove-like spice and a dash of honey to add some welcome depth to the flavor. Highly drinkable, not overly sweet and the texture is not heavy nor thick. This beer dodges nearly every unenjoyable caveat that the Hefeweizen presents to an aspiring german-style brewer. 4

(Mouthfeel) Texture is mild- a smooth, soft wheat malt profile with some yeasty acidity and spice. Carbonation adds a touch of crispness to the texture. The body is medium for a hefeweizen, medium amongst all beers. Alcohol presence is low. 3.5

(Overall) A tasty Hefeweizen albeit a simple one that doesn't take any chances. If you're not a big fan of the German wheat styles, especially the ones with overdone yeast notes, this one is a fair homage to the simplicity that a Hefeweizen can maintain. If for nothing else, a donation to a charitable cause is a good reason to try this beer. 3.75

12 ounce bottle -> World Market Wheat Beer Glass

A - a vigorous pour yielded a massive overflowing head which slowly receded. Color was a beautiful crystal clear gold. Retention was pretty amazing and there was substantial lacing left behind. A beautiful beer.

S - mostly bananas and clove with some grassy notes too. The smell is not overpowering at all, but kind of gentle and pleasant.

T - taste is simple but appealing. The wheat notes are there along with the clove. The finish is dry and yeasty, but not pronounced.

M - a little thin and watery

O - I'm not really a wheat beer fan but this one is very drinkable, just the flavor is not particularly bold. (669 characters)

12 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a surprisingly clear-esque gold color with a massive, fluffy white head. Meringue-like retention and lace.

Nose seems more American wheat than hefe, there is a strong wheat base with a floral-grassy hop but is lacking in yeasty phenols. There is some banana and clove, but not as much as I would like.

Taste throws down some more clove, banana is still light and the accompanying wheat and mild hop is well played. Maybe think of this as a hefe-light? Its a decent beer, but seems to fall a bit on the watery and "not yeasty enough" side of things. It is quite refreshing and quaffable, the drinkability is off the charts and I think I could grab a sixer or two in the summer. It would be hard to pick this over some fresh Franziskaner though. (785 characters)
