Sweetwater LowRYEder IPA has a medium, off-white head, a hazy, orange-gold appearance, a few streaming bubbles, and some thin lacing left behind. The aroma is faint, but one can detect citrus, hop oil, and bread crust. Taste is very much of mild grapefruit, with some white bread, white bread crust, sweetness, low bitterness, and a shade of peppery rye. Mouthfeel light to medium and a bit slick. Sweetwater LowRYEder finishes dry, refreshing, sweet, and easy going. Overall, this is very good, but not particularly different.

Appearance: Poured a medium copper from a 12 oz bottle into my Founders snifter. Nice one finger fluffy white head and solid lacing, good looking beer.

Smell: Citrus forward, with some grapefruit, tangerine, and peach coming to mind. Also some pine and earthy notes, can sense the rye as well.

Taste: Moderate hoppiness with some pine and spiciness coming through, notable citrus with some lemon and grapefruit coming through, decent tasting.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low to moderate bitterness and a decent kick. Could use a bit more balance I think, but not bad.

Overall: This wasn't great, but I'd drink it again. I like their traditional IPA slightly better but this is worth a try.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. Label says Best if Enjoyed by: 11/07/13

A- Pours a dark amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains quite well before slowly settling at a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a trail of clots behind.

S- Somewhat citrusy hop aroma blends with the spicy, malty rye.

T- Hops have a mild bite for an IPA as the rye malt lends a good balance to the profile. The bitterness and spice make for a vibrant combo. Easy to drink and minimal alcohol flavor.

M- A tad oily with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- I used to really like RIPAs because of the balance the rye usually brings, but lately I've been prone to enjoying more straight-up versions of the style. Nonetheless, this one is certainly recommended.
