Poured light brown with a 1 finger head and a little bit of lacing on the glass.

Sweet aroma with little yeast funk.

Big malt flavor. Sweet with just enough balance from the hops. Slight heat from the alcohol on the finish. Really nice flavor.

Mouthfeel was medium with good carbonation.

Overall this is a great beer. An easy to drink bomber.

Poured into a 1/2 liter stein a deep bronze colro with a thick creamy slightly off white head that never really settled,a great pour.Aromas of caramel and sweet dough,not as big and alcoholic as I thought it would be.Somewhat sweet at first on the palate but it never gets to big,somewhat doughy with a light shot of herbal hops in the finish,again the alcohol is kept in check.A good "imperial" style O-fest beer,not overly sweet or alcoholic,the label was a little annoying though.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date

Semi-clear tawny hued brew, decent lacing. Huge malty aroma screams Doppelbock, sweet and bready with some clean alcohol. Smooth and creamy with a brawny body, malt bomb drops on the palate right away. Bready, grainy, dried hay, herbal, spicy, peppery alcohol, faint fig, nugat, faintly biscuity.

A bit drinkable for the size and grows on me with each sip. A dig this brew.

A: Pours a clear copper with half a finger of off-white head that fades to a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Munich malts up front with hints of sweet citrus. Sweet breads follow with caramel and a slightly candy-like finish.

T: Munich malts here as well with slight caramel notes and nutty flavors following. There are some hearty bread flavors on the finish that is slightly roasted and bitter with a small alcohol presence.

M: Medium body with lowish carbonation, this beer isn't too thick and heavy, but isn't as light and drinkable as I prefer a Marzen, either.

O: An interesting and decent take on the style. An imperial Marzen? It's solid, though, with the extra alcohol hidden well. In hindsight, the abv seems needlessly high for a style that is generally supposed to be light and drinkable in large quantities.

Pours dark amber with a ivory head that fades to a patchy haze and tiny spots of lacing. Aromas of caramel malt, toffee, sugar, baked bread, and lightly herbal hops. Flavor consists of more sugary malt, caramel, toffee, and mildly resinous hops. Mouthfeel is fairly sticky, with a medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Pretty decent "Imperial" Oktoberfest, but one of my favorite things about the style is their remarkable drinkability, something this misses out on.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a thick tan colored head that dies down to a thin line of bubbles. Leaves webbed lacing on the glass. You can just smell the toasted malt behind the fresh cut grass aroma from the hop.

Flavors are mostly sweet toasted grain and caramel malt with a bit of honey. I was surprised that the malt would come through based on the big hop aroma. Not saying that the hop flavor isn't present, beacause it is in full effect. The hop starts out grassy and finishes with a bitter bite. Usually you have a sweet finish to an Oktoberfest, but the amount of bitterness in this finish erases a lot of the sweetness and leaves a nice toasted grain flavor. Feel is Medium bodied and smooth with a dry, bitter finish. The sweetness starts to really show through after your tongue acclimates itself and the hop assault on your tastebuds wears off.

This is my favorite time of year. The weather is perfect, football has started, bratwurst, sauerbraten, rouladen, pretzels...and the beer is flowing. I really like this beer, it is unique, sweet, tasty, hoppy, and then gives you the bitterness in the finish with just the right amount of sweetness, making you want to take another sip. I wouldn't go as far to say it is sessionable at 8.5%, but it's pretty damn close.

Thanks to littletriggers (Reddit) for this interesting beer, love the Oktoberfests, so hopefully this does well instead of the style of Ofest I don't like as much, and at that high abv I'm guessing it's gonna be the latter.

Pours a fluffy 1 finger bubbly head that fades at a med pace, with lines of lacing, over crystal clear auburn tan slight rosy hue beer.

Nose is soft and lager like, light caramel malts, light Munich reddish like malt, some crisp lager with hint of lager fruity aroma, a hint of esters I think with a waft of booze coming through with them, a little toasty, hint of grassy hops but barely.

Taste starts with some toasty malt flavors, plenty of caramel and reddish toasty malts, fairly sweet, with that sweetness comes light esters and some warming booze, some lager flavors but not a lot, soft crisp lagers with hint of fruity lager yeast. The booze brings a slight tingle and booze like flavor. Then hops, quite bitter actually, spicy chewy hops, a little grassy and earthy. Finishes with more of the hops, quite bitter on the finish but it doesn't dry that much although it attempts to, so it's not overbearing bitterness, with some lingering spicy hops, and a bit of caramel malty flavors.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb, some warming slight tingly booze.

Overall not bad, it doesn't get overly sweet or overly caramel candy flavors that many U.S. style O-fest beers like to do. It has some hop presence, although not the best hops for the style, more bitter style, also a bit too boozy IMO as you want to be able to drink lots of o-fest in one sitting and this is not very drinkable with the booze and the big bitterness. And it seems way to big for a lager.

A 22oz bottle picked up at Green's on Buford Hwy in October, 2012

A - A bronze, auburn red color. 1 finger of head and a good amount of lace left on the side of the glass. Looks like a caramel. Little clarity. Good looking

S - Sweet aroma, caramel, and alcohol. Not a light brew, that is for sure.

T - Sweetness, caramel. Huge hoppy kick in the aftertaste.

M - Medium to full bodied. Highly carbonated. Sizzles in your mouth.

O - An excellent, hoppy take on the Ocktoberfest German style brew. As all good Dank tanks do, the hops are in your face, but still true to the style. Better than really any other Octoberfests I have had (not my favorite style). Excellent!

Poured into a Jackie O's tulip...

A. Pours a very hazy burnt orange with a substantial finger and a half of creamy, fluffy head. Lacing is excellent. Retention is very good. Slightly cloudy for style, but this just popped out of the fridge so it could be chill haze. Classic looking Octoberfest here.

S. It has a clean bouquet, a mix of toasted barley, ripe fruit, caramel, floral hops, and some alcohol notes. Smells just a little "wetter" and heavier than a traditional Ocktoberfest, though this is an amped up version so I suppose that makes sense. Good.

T. Hmmmm, interesting. Very caramel and fruit forward. Malts shine strongest with waves of toasted barley, apple, pear, some grape, and plenty of caramel. Hops aren't immediately apparent...the bitterness I detect comes mainly from the alcohol, which is prevalent and somewhat burning. A lot of yeast as well gives this a borderline honey wheat-bread quality, with plenty of residual sugar balancing out the butteriness. This beer drinks much like a tripel or quad, with some classic apple and pear notes and a lot of yeast. Pretty good, but sweetness is dialed up perhaps a bit too much.

M. Thick and creamy. Carbonation is moderate. A very sweet beer.

O. I'm torn because this doesn't remind me too much of an Oktoberfest, more like a Belgian tripel or quad in a lot of respects. That said, as a beer it is pretty tasty and, while I wouldn't want to have a lot of this on any given night, I would certainly revisit in the future. An interesting creation from a brewery that specializes in them, Sweetwater Danktoberfest is a solid accomplishment.

"While Krones was working on SweetWater's brewhouse, which they were 3 months behind schedule on (that part is true), one of their sour kraut engineers drove a gabelstapler over Mr. Dank's toe and broke it. Limping and angepisst, Mr. Dankenschnitzel jumped a flub to Krones HQ in Deutschland to pick up his large siedlung check. Looking to quell his T pain, Danke beelined it to Oktoberfest in München and into the arms of a friendly fraulein who quickly über serviert him. Stumbling blindly, Herr Dankenschnitzel, laden in lederhosen and longingly looking for a lovely loo, humpelte into the Bitterburger Brewery to drain the main vein. Unable to hold it any longer, DankenGuender feuer abgespritzt all over the control panel, short circuiting their infamous Oktoberfest bier. The beer no longer fit the rhinobutt purity law, so Hans and Franz kicked his arch out of the mother land and told Danky doodle dandy to take that mischmasch back to SußWasser with him." Brewed in the style of an Oktoberfest, released in September 2012 as part of the Dank Tank series. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a SweetWater snifter. Served above 55º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a creamy eggnog-white head of a frothed creamy consistency over a maple red-amber body. The body is quite opaque, plenty of haze and varied sediment is in tow, from flecks to small chunks. Retention is average, lacing is thin and spotty. 3.5

(Smell) A fairly appropriate aroma for the style, bready german malts with a moderate toasted caramel syrup sweetness, some syrupy fruits and molasses enhance the sweetness. The aroma of the body is slightly elevated above the pedestrian Oktoberfest, with some bold sweetness and creeping alcohol to be perceived, but otherwise a fairly clean and simple aroma. Potency is medium. 3.75

(Taste) The malt profile keeps lighter than expected, with a dry bready malt body, a light drizzle of grainy caramel syrup and some residual fruit sugars. Danktoberfest portrays a thinner body than predicted, with a mellow sweetness and a earthy, nutty bitterness from the grain alcohol and trace hop resins. It's certainly as drinkable as an Oktoberfest should be, but neither incredibly impressive in originality nor in sticking with tradition, the elevated alcohol content makes Danktoberfest a little sneaky when considering the "session" side of things. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth, fluffy, slick with a mild graininess. Carbonation adds some light air and mild crispness to the tongue for a slightly more lively texture. Body is medium+ amongst German Oktoberfests and medium+ amongst all beers. Balance is in favor of sweetness, although the flavor does tone the sweet side of this beer down to a drinkable status, a stronger hop bitterness would have been an excellent benefit for this particular beer. Alcohol presence is light. 3.75

(Overall) Danktoberfest is likely on par with most Oktoberfests, but below expectations for the Dank Tank line. This is partially to blame for the style, as keeping Oktoberfests as close to style doesn't provide much room for originality, making Danktoberfest one of the simplest entries yet, but SweetWater honorably keeps this German style as close to style expectations as possible while generously elevates the gravity for a good ol' American buzz factor. Ultimately, don't expect anything revolutionary with Danktoberfest, as it's just another Oktoberfest. 3.5

A - Pours a real nice orangish copper color with a half finger of tan colored head, ok retention, only an outer ring remaining after 5 minutes and a very thin spotty layer of head left. Lacing is moderate.

S - Some lighter caramel/Munich-like malts, slightly toasty, some citrus/herbal presence. A little too weak

T - Lots of sweet caramelish malts and citrus, slightly spicy and grassy bitter. Very mild traces of alcohol.

M - Medium bodied or so, not difficult to drink but not especially enjoyable to drink either. Carbonation is appropriate.

O - Too much of a citrusy and alcohol taste without the bitterness to counter IMO.

22oz bomber into a tulip. Imperial Oktoberfest with a slightly amusing story on the bottle of a drunk German brewer.

A: Translucent copper in color. Half-finger tan head that recedes to a light lacing ring with frothy cap. Some carbonation bubbles.

S: Sweet Munich malt and that light grainy aroma that's traditional of the style.

T: Flavors are really solid and diverse. Malts are there with a rich caramel and biscuity taste, hops are present in the earthy spices notes, and that classic grainy aftertaste.

M: This is really the only place I can tell the higher alcohol content of the beer. It's simply bigger in body than its little brothers. Not overbearing or cumbersome tho. Just not quite crisp.

O: I usually don't care for imperial styles of classic traditional beers, but Sweetwater does a pretty good job here. Very drinkable and enjoyable beer for the season.

22 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Sherlock's in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a good, clear body with a dark amber/copper vibe to it and a fairly sustained, frothy, off-white head.

Smell: Heavily toasted bready malts wrapped in candy-esque sweet-scented notes and some low-lying alcohol. Some growing notes of baked apple, brown sugar, and well-ground spice as it warms. I'm a little nervous to continue, frankly. I mean, we could have another straight-up The Kaiser on our hands, folks.

Taste: Breadcrusts, well toasted, with some faint, faint dough and caramel. Lightly sweetish. Fruity touch of skins-on apples. Spicy, herbal hops (even a tad minty) with bitterness, but, that's when the traces of staunch alcohol crackle across the tongue. Dry, lightly bitter, warming finish with a whisper of untoasted nuts.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Not nearly as rough or as ghastly as Avery's The Kaiser. Yes, folks, we dodged a The Kaiser on this one.

22oz bomber from CurtisMcArthur (thanks!) poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint...

A: Chill hazed golden amber...thin off-white head laces decently.

S: Pretty big malt presence with lots of toffee and caramel...underlying fruitiness, possibly apple, pear or grape? Tough to tell. Some dark earthy notes but the hops are faint. Faint spicyness and toasted grain as well.

T: Malt...toffee and caramel dominate again with the same fruity notes as well as some earhty qualities and faint spices. There is a touch of bitterness but I can't tell if its the hop balance.

MF: Moderate body medium carbonation.

O: Its ok - not an earth-shattering take on the style.

Amber colored body was clear, and the head that formed was well proportioned at two fingers thick. The aroma was a nice malty smell reminding me of toffee, and caramel apples. The taste was a bit more concentrated than the typical Oktoberfest beer, which is to be anticipated considering the strength. The toasted malts and clean lager character were spot on. There a spicy hop presence in the finish, which was quite a bit of a departure from the style.

Strong aroma is malty with a woody hint and a touch of nutmeg. Pours a beautiful clear mahogany with a fairly thick light wheat head. Rich, malty flavor has subtle hoppy, earthy and caramel tones and a nutty hint. Texture is a little bit "dirty" (seems to have a little fine dust) and has good body and fizz. Prosit for Oktoberfest!

An overhopped, double-ish marzen -- excellent! Pours a mostly clear reddish orange with thin tan colored head. Smell: spicy, grassy and citric notes, toasted yeasty bread, slightly nutty, caramel, brown sugar, dates. Taste: big caramel sugariness is quickly cut by a serious spicy and resinous hopping, with some date, bready, cherry, and earthy hits in the back. This is all kinds of good.
