The latest Dank Tank...

A - Dark yellow, almost copper with clarity. Nice 2 fingers of head and sticky lace left all over the glass

S - Like all dank tanks, huge citrus hoppy nose. Dominates

T - Belgian yeast, big cistrusy hops. Damn tasty! Wow.

M - Medium body, big on carbonation. Nice lingering aftertaste.

O - I think I read it in another review, but definitely a belgian IPA over a PA. Great brew! Definitely going to pick up a few more, maybe even age 1 or 2 and see what happens

Had on-tap at Avenue Pub New Orleans. Served in a cask glass.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/4 inch white head that doesn't retain long before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a small center patch of surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves a thin ring behind on the glass.

S- Big, bright citrusy hops come in and bring tropical fruit notes.

T- I've been waiting all day to get a taste of this and it's extremely satisfying. Fruity hop flavors rush in and ignite the palate creating a bittersweet sensation that's incredible. Just enough malt to balance out the intense hoppiness. Alcohol is noticed but not imposing.

M- Sharp and tangy as it should be. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- The Dank Tank Series never ceases to please me. Not sure why this one's classified as a BPA when it's really an IPA all the way...hey.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 7.99. No noticeable bottle date but this was just released within the past month or two. Served in a Sweetwater snifter.

Pours golden orange with a half finger of pale head. Head fades fairly quickly without lacing.

Smells of citrus hops, apples and sugar with just a hint of yeast.

Much more yeast in the flavor. Apple tinged funk, peaches, orange, peppercorn, rind, perhaps a hint of banana and some white sugar with ocassional nips of alcohol.

Oily and medium heavy with low to moderate carbonation. Estery tropical finish.

Seems to me that this is a Belgian IPA masquerading as a Belgian strong pale ale. Not bad, no matter what you call it.

I really like this beer.

I'm not, generally speaking, the biggest fan of Sweetwater: I long-ago grew tired of their schtick, their main-line beers are either decent hits (Motor Boat, 420) or big-swing misses (Blue), and sometimes they feel more committed to image than brewing. But they often score reasonably well with their one-off Dank Tank series, and—to my tastes—the Price is Wrong is one of the exemplary iterations thereof.

It smells decent; but, along with a very minimally-moderate head, the aroma is the most underwhelming aspect: it's sweet, a little yeasty, with notes of hop florality—notes which don't appropriately presage what's to come. That's because this refulgently translucent, deep, leather-golden, almost browned-ghee-colored ale packs a wallop of delicious candied-hop notes along with mild, bright malt flavors. Indeed: sour grass streaks, a decent blast of Belgian sugars, delicate yeast esters and soft, yeasty stone-fruit taste-vectors, a bit of crisp bitternesss at the finish—all these things culminate in a drinkable yet complex, light yet unexpectedly boozy, very Belgian yet very American Pale Ale, sumptuous and well-conceived effort by Sweetwater.

Like I said: they aren't my favorite brewery, by far, but this one product—while maybe not perfect—I think they nailed.
