I agree with a previous reviewer - Tbrink -and will piggy back on that nicely crafted review.
We have been here just twice and are very pleased with this ale house. If we were to stay in this area, we would no doubt be frequent visitors. A good vibe, good beer, good food and great service are found here.
Great job IAH!

Independent Ale House is an ABSOLUTE MANDATORY STOP for anyone coming through the Rapid City area. Without a doubt this is the best place to go for the largest selection of craft beer in the Black Hills region. They have a standing policy of "no crap on tap", and there is a constant rotation of beers on tap assuring fresh, quality pints.
They have a nice (albeit somewhat small) outdoor patio area, and the staff really know their stuff; i like that a lot. You can tell that they genuinely like what they do, and it's reflected in their service and demeanor. There is a large variety of beer options to choose from, and they excel at helping winnow out what you want based on your mood.
The pizzas are great. Large enough to share with someone, but small and tasty enough that you tell your friends to buzz off and get their own. That being said, they only have pizzas on the menu. If they had more variety there would be a higher score.
Most beer prices range from 4 to 7 dollars ($1 less if it's happy hour), depending on the style and alcohol content. You can even bring in a growler and fill it up. Don't have a growler? They got you covered.
If you take your beer seriously, you have to go Independent Ale House.

In downtown Rapid among an eclectic collection of shops and restaurants is this tap house with 28 rotating taps and over 100 bottles. I was there for their advertised craft beer festival, which wasn't really a festival, just a new selection of guest taps. An overhyped event in the Balck Hills, surely not. Anyway, the selection was very good. I went with the mystery choice in the barrel mini-keg in the table. It was SchellHeffe, surprisingly tasty, even without fruit garnish. I chatted with one staff member after I made a comment about noticing a bottle of SA Utopia on an out-of-reach shelf. We discussed styles and current events, nice to see they have staff that knowledgable about the craft. Stop on in for a pint or 3.

Excellent selection (28 TAPS IN RAPID CITY, AMAZING!!!), friendly and very knowledgeable staff, good atmosphere. Lots of Rogue and Odell and Crow Peak on tap. Staff knows what they are doing and will help you find something good on any craft beer fan's quest to taste something new and exciting. Bottle selection ranges far and wide in case your tastes somehow aren't content with the tap selection. I'm not much of a wine person but from the look of it, they have that arena covered as well. Cool beer-related items on the walls. Once this place gains a kitchen, it will be epic.
