Consumed November 3rd, 2013 at Congregation Alehouse in Pasadena, CA. 7.7% ABV on menu.

Appearance: extremely dark reddish/caramel - think super dark honey. One finger fine tan head.

Aroma - molasses, dark fresh bread, a touch of smoke.

Flavor - Slightly sweet and bready. Fresh baked molasses bread with some rye notes. Not very hoppy, but a little woody bitterness at the end.

Creamy, thick in the mouth.

Not sure where they were going when they made this, but I'm there.

On tap at Congregation Ale House in Long Beach, CA.

This is a new beer brewed at the Azusa chapter.

Pours a murky super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, dark fruit, and dark bread aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit and roasty flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the smells on this one are fairly muddled in my opinion.
