BOught some after a taste test at a local grocery store. Pours dark brown into a pint jar with a thin short lived head but decent lacing. Smell is slightly sweet and rustic with a bit of chocolate. Some carbonation, with the taste of chocolate and subtle sweet potatoes. The sweet potato seems to,give the beer a rustic taste. A good beer and will get more next year!

Black, thick looking beer with a finger of light tan foam atop. Spotty lace grips the glass tightly as the head retreats to a lasting cap.
I swear I can smell the sweet potato in the mix of other sweet and roasty notes of coffee and mild bitter grain. As it warms floral and hints of herbal bitter enter the mix.
Taste follows the aroma perfectly, a balanced group of flavors that are quite delicious. Not as roasty/ deeply bitter as some porters, but the sweet is perfect for an end of sip that is just juicy enough.
Just the right mouth to showcase the flavors, and well within style guidelines for body and carb.
Quite a tasty brew, recommended. The beers from New Republic have run the gamut between subpar, to quite nice, and the future for this brewery is certain to include many delicious offerings for those lucky enough to get them.

I'm updating my previous score. Poured from a can, this Porter has some serious roast going on. Roasted bitterness gives way to marshmellow and a smooth mouthfeel. This is a very classy porter.
