on-tap poured into 10 oz. mini-tulip (almost a vertical chalice, no real flaring)
6/13/14

L: amber/brown; very clear for a DIPA, not crystal clear like a lager, but you can see through it no trouble; tight, thick head about 3/4 inch tall that sticks and laces some on the way down; gorgeous

S: pine, citrus, grain (?) ... something sweet, probably not malt -- it's like sweet grapefruit or sugar-doused pine; some saltiness (am I smelling the nearby barbecue truck?)

T: bitter ... big bite of pine and some more pine with some grapefruit in there

F: pound-for-pound, might be the most drinkable DIPA I've tried so far ... it's lightweight with lots of carbonation, so it feels easy to deal with despite the massive flavor. some might frown on the combination, but I love it

O: it's a little like New Republic's Dammit Jim! on steriods ... no grain, no malt notes, but the hops here don't need to share the spotlight. it's juicy but light, bitter but easy to handle, and for those of us who like more pine and/or grapefruit than mango/caramel, this DIPA is perfect. the brewery has hit on some great recipes

Opened after a number of BCBS beers tonight because I realized I was one short of making Rare my 400th beer and 100th review. So here we are. Poured from a bomber into a Trillium tasting tulip.

Appearance: A dark reddish amber, hazy with a small eggshell crown around the edge.

Smell: Lots of pine, and apricot as well. Vinous a bit.

Taste: Kinda watered down, but definitely heavy on the pine, and quite bitter. Bitterness lasts on the finish quite a while.

Mouthfeel: Higher carb than the rest of what we had tonight, but since this is an IPA and everything else was BCBS, of course it does. Relatively thin, and obviously a long sticky bitter finish.

Overall: A solid DIPA. Nothing too special, but a pretty good offering. Look forward to trying other stuff from the brewery.
