Appearance: Points for doing what you say on the tin, this is very brown, a flashlight shows a deep ruby tan but in general it doesn't like light going through it. Thin brown ring of foam holds a bit, but little lace.

Aroma: Earthy, bit of rain water, some malt sweetness, some very light roasted grain, and a very light off note, bit of iron I think.

Taste: Thin body has a ribbon of chocolate malt and toffee, but the sweetness quickly dries out to the light iron mineral water finish, which is short lived.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation makes it feel slightly heavy, but after the swallow it just sort of fades away. It's a fairly clean finish where I want a sticky, chewy snack.

Overall: Fairly easy drinking, but doesn't really live up to the Baltic Porter category it's currently in. Something in the flavor, either metallic or sour, that just seems a bit off to me, it might be a recipe decision I just didn't agree with.

Pours as black as night with slight red around the edges. This is it's best attribute by far. Looks like it would be a delicious example of the Baltic Porter it tries hard to be. However, even a fairly aggressive pour leaves a quickly dissipating head. Lacing is near zero, leaving much to be desired.

Smell is on point, but very light. Hints of licorice, raisins, figs, toasted malts.

Taste follows the nose. Light on licorice, dark chocolate , fig/raisin on the finish with a fair amount of astringency. The oatmeal wants to break through, but lacks in effort.

Mouthfeel is the greatest letdown. Pretty flat. Pretty thin. With the bragging of an oatmeal boost on the label, I was expecting a lot more here.

I drink this again if options were few. Otherwise, I don't think I'll seek this one out any time soon.
