On tap at the Hay Merchant in Houston -- poured into 13 oz. tulip.
L: red. kind of awesome.
S: HOPS! citrusy grapefruit, classic American DIPA; so good over the second half.
T: possibly too bitter. but still --> grapefruity. tries to achieve balance, but at 100+ IBUs, let's not kid ourselves here: this dude wants to be bitter, is bitter, and frankly, I can't for the life of me detect much else. Rye? where? all I taste are hops.
F: just fine. a light-medium body. certainly not overly anything.
O: not bad, not fantistic. you want hops, you get it here ... you want a Texas-brewed beer with hops, you get it here. it probably goes for the fantastic with the 100+ IBUs and the name "Dream Crusher," and it definitely achieves it on the hops' side.
overall, it's good enough to make me want to give Deep Ellum lots of rope and a lot more tries for their other styles. based on the overall presentation/taste here, Deep Ellum makes a damn good showing. Bravo and all .. but I need not try this one again. it's a hops salad in liquid form and not much more -- with a name like "Dream Crusher," I assume that's what they're going for, and they nail it in a suprisingly drinkable form.

On tap at the Holy Grail Pub in Plano.
The beer pours an orange color with a medium-sized white head. The aroma is exactly what I expect from a double IPA. I get a lot of orange citrus and pine notes, as well as a slightest hint of some biscuit malt. The flavor is where the rye really comes through and it is strong enough to be able to stand out above the strong hop notes. I also get some nice orange and pine notes in the flavor with a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12 oz can pours a dark copper color with a large cap of off-white head. Excellent retention and lace.
Nose is caramely sweet with lots of deep malts. Hops are there as well, mostly citric and tropical - but this one definitely has a strong malt backbone.
Taste is loaded with resinous hop bitterness, sweet, candy-corn maltiness and a fair amount of alcohol. There is some hop flavor, but it is overshadowed by the aforementioned triumvirate of malt, bitterness and alcohol. It has balance, and the mouthfeel is full. It goes down fairly easy as well. It is a pretty good beer, though I dont think quite as good as the ratings here suggest.
