On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest.

The beer pours a golden color with a large white head. The aroma is fairly spicy with some nice rye and biscuit malt notes. The flavor is also very enjoyable. There is quite a bit of rye and some orange citrus, as well as some lighter pilsner malts and additional spice notes. Very easy to drink, with a light mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I had this on their brewery tour last weekend. I'm reviewing on memory on post facto notes ...

A- Quite nice golden or slightly darker color with a decent white head (as poured) and good carbonation.

S- The rye dominates, with a lighter grainier malt underneath and a slight, clean bitter hop aroma.

T- I really found the rye to dominate, making it a bit (too much?) spicier than the standard Pils. There was no balancing malt characteristic and the bittering hops kind of melded in with the rye.

M- Meidum-bodied, rather nice for a Pilsener. The carbonation was not noticeable and it left no after-swallow bitter feeling.

O- I was unimpressed and in fact preferred their now discontinued blonde. My brother liked this one a bit more ... So maybe the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The beer pours a nice cloudy golden body with a thick white head that slowly fades and a leaves a little bit of lacing on the glass.

S: It has a sort of fruity smell, almost like a tripel actually. If I ever smelled this in a blind smelling I would have never guessed that it is a pilsner.

T: Oh yeah this is what a pilsner should taste like. Man it has that nice fruitiness, with sweet grain and a little bit of that typical pilsner type taste. I would have to say this is one of the best tasting pilsners I have ever had.

M: The beer is very creamy feel and has a a nice thick body. There is a tiny bit of crispness on the back of the throat, but all in all the beer goes down with ease.

O: This is ANOTHER great beer from Deep Ellum. I love being able to get their beer so fresh and I think this would be perfect on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn. I would for sure buy this delicious beer again.

12 oz bottle pours a hazed, light gold color with an excellent cap of creamy white head. Fades at a medium pace to a cool-looking sheet of lace. Besides the haziness, which is definitely not in the traditional pilsner lexicon, this is a great looking brew.

Nose is nice; grassy noble hops mix with a zesty, bready rye character. Nothing extraneous, exactly as advertised...smells good, fresh and hoppy.

Taste is well done too, its clean and crisp with plenty of grassy hop flavor and bitterness. The rye seems to have a drying effect on the beer as it does not have the malt sweetness that some import pilsners can exhibit. I dont really have anything negative to say on this beer, except maybe a little depth would help - maybe a zing of malt in the middle. It was a delicious surprise as I hadnt heard much (any) hype on this one, but I'll be damned if next time I am up in the Metroplex I wont pick up a couple sixers of this.
