A pretty average red. Many brewers sculpt these beers to be lighter in malt profile than a pale, but with some darker crystal malts and lower hopping rates. This one is no different. It totally lacks in meaningful malt backbone or giving much bready, toasty, or rich body components. Hops are quite light and struggle to balance the beer, however the citrus notes in the hops are pleasant enough. Light in the body with some grain astringency in the back of the throat and maybe some grassiness. After all that, it's not a bad beer.

The beer pours an amber color with a thick offwhite head that fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a grainy pale and crystal malt scent that is sweet, but dry as well. The taste is good. It has a grainy pale and crystal malt flavor that goes down easy and finishes dry with some residual malt sweetness. This seems like a run of the mill red ale, but it's pretty good. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking beer. It's not the best out there, but I could drink it all day; a fine sessions ale.

Whew, what a drop in quality from the IPA I just lovingly devoured. Send this one back to the test-kitchen.

A tired scarlet beer with no head or lace, Riley's red epitomized everything I found upsetting with some micro-brew I had on this trip. Nose is overwhelmingly like heated plastic, and flavor is consumed by it as well.

There was a hop consistency, but only in the mouthfeel. Draggingly bitter.

Long-in-the-tooth keg? Dirty tap lines? The worst beer at the brewery? Who knows.
