Poured from a 12 oz into a tulip glass: A hazy light amber/yellow with a fluffy white head that fads into sticky lacing. Smells like tropical fruit, grass. Tastes bitter and dry, fresh cut lawn, banana bread, a bit of metallic nuance, which is not as bad as it sounds. Dry and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, for the price and the brewers this beer should be better. It was a very nice beer, but it was not complex in a good way or balanced as it should be. It's missing any largeness.

Pours into a small tulip glass a hazed deep burnt orange infused golden with a blooming sticky white head atop that leaves multiple broken rings of lace behind as it settles ever so slowly into a frothy mass.Aromas of stone fruit and powdered sugar up front, mild phenols and lemony hops are detected as well.Yeasty flavors along with some grain notes at the onset, dry and slightly spicy with lemony hops playing a role.Iam learning slowly that Belgian IPA's are not tongue buckling hop bombs, and I like hop bombs, but I like this beer,it's dry and not overly yeasty.

11.2 ounce bottle....(Did I really pay $5.39 for the single bottle!?! WTF, should have checked the sticker price a bit closer)

Medium almond amber, a huge head results from a moderate pour. Fluffy and frothy and slowly relaxing down to a thicker film and leaving nice fine wispy lace.

Ripe tropical fruit nose.

I'm kinda disappointed with this one, sort of mushy mouth feel wise and quite on the mellow side hop wise. Two fine brewers but really no fire works here. Everything seems kinda muted, not what I was expecting from Green Flash and St F.

Poured from a 11.2 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass. Produced on 15/07/2013.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy copper golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Huge four finger off white head with decent retention. Leaves some decent lacing clinging to the glass.

Smell: A yeasty, juicy, and fairly earthy aroma with good hints of citrus and Belgian yeast. Belgian yeast with some upfront hints of funk, clove, and white pepper. Earthy hop presence with some hints of grass and pine. Citrus hops with hints of orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and lemon. Also some fruit hints of green apple, pear, grape, and banana. Hints of bubblegum and some candied sugar. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like the smell hints, a juicy, yeasty, and earthy Belgian style taste with big notes of fruit and yeast. Upfront Belgian yeast with a taste of clove, funk, and white pepper. Mix of hops with earthy notes of grass and pine. Citrus hops with some juicy notes of orange, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, and lemon zest. Juicy taste of green apples, banana, pear, and white grape. Also some notes of candied sugar and bubblegum. A very nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and somewhat oily. Finishes very dry.

Overall: A very good take on a Belgian IPA. Good balance of Belgian yeast notes and West Coast IPA notes.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a massive, half glass off-white head with good retention and sheets of lacing. Nice spicy aroma of Belgian yeast, clove, citrus hops, fairly complex stone and tropical fruit. Flavor starts with sweet caramel malt, Belgian spicing and yeast, light toffee. Finishes with lingering citrus hops and allspice. Medium bodied. A pleasant Belgian inspired IPA with an almost winter warmer spice complement that is just assertive enough to be supported by the malt and yeast flavors. Finish is a bit thin, leaving the spicing a bit aggressive in the aftertaste, but overall a nicely done Belgian IPA.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish amber in color and has a high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high beige colored head that gradually died down, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of Belgian yeast are present in the nose along with notes of grassy and citrusy hops—grapefruit seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and has lots of flavors of Belgian yeast along with a mix of grassy and citrusy hops. A light amount of bitterness is present, but this is mostly overshadowed by peppery spices towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The Belgian influences on this beer seemingly outweigh the American ones, but this is an interesting blend of the two styles. I liked how the combination of grassy and citrusy hops almost resulted in a lemongrass-like flavor.

I know that many people are unhappy about this winter and the ongoing series of snow days that are eroding the summer break, but I am actually all for it. I have a huge backlog of beer here at Chez Woody and as such, I am being diligent about clearing it out. Thus begins the Collaboration phase of today's program. Purchased at The Fridge and set aside, this beer's day has come!

From the bottle: "Bottle-Conditioned Ale"; "Product of Belgium Ale"; [undersigned] [?] Brewmaster Brasserie St-Feullien [,] Chuck Silva Brewmaster Green Flash Brewing Co."

How was I able to discern Silva's name? His penmanship was better, plus I know the man personally, as he is a friend of my cousin, Colby Chandler, specialty brewer at Ballast Point B.C.

If it says "bottle-conditioned" and evinces a slight haze, is a heavy-handed pour appropriate? NO! I was as gentle as I would be with a virgin. This resulted in mere wisps for head until I employed the servers' trick and produced two fingers of dense, tawny head with good retention. Color was a deep, coppery-amber (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Again, why would you disturb the lees if it is clearly marked as bottle-conditioned? SMH. Nose smelled like lying in a field of wild mint during the summer and taking a deep breath. Wow! The meadow below my maternal grandparents' house when I was growing up held just such a field and my maternal aunt took my brother and I out to pick a bunch of it and then showed us how to make tea from it. This is exactly what this beer smelled like! Mouthfeel was extremely carbonated, but with big bubbles, rendering it soft, rather than scrubbing. The taste was definitely minty hops, but underlain by a strange, fruity mustiness, not totally unlike Duvel. Wow. I know that I have complained about the Cascadian/Black IPA style in which the dark malts seem to overwhelm the hops, but just as I like White IPAs which enhance the hops with spices, this enhanced the hops with yeast. This was bottled 15 July 2013 and my aging did not seem to have harmed it in the least. The finish was bone-dry, just the way any respectable IPA should be. The yeast had done its job and the hops had not faded in any way. You can bet that I will be looking in The Fridge's cooler to see if any more exist.
