A - Deep copper coloring, Big head with wonderful lacing. Some suspended particles an haziness

S - Nice fresh grass and rye smell

T - Harty caramel malt upfront gives way to a bready rye finish. Quite dry. Hints of anise. High alcohol mostly unnoticeable.

M - Heavy, thick feel.

Solid dry rye entry. Little rough around the edges, lacking a crispness or complexity of other imperial IPA. But wonderful maltiness and rye flavors, enjoyable to sip.

Deep ruddy amber beer topped with an inch creamy khaki foam. Big lacing. Very attractive. Smells of pine and citrus pith, rye, toffee, earth. Nice. Creamy on the palate with nice full throttle bitterness complemented with an earthy spicy character, citrus pith and pine. Toffees and a hint of rich almost burnt molasses smooth out all the rough edges. Medium body is velvety and holds together well. A pithy bitterness resurfaces into the finish. This is a big beer. Excellent.

Bottle to IPA bulb glass. Pours a reddish-brown, medium lace, quickly dissipating head. Smells smokey, a little bready, mild spices and tea leaves. Taste is immediately candyish but not overpowering, then pine hoppy, and this cycle repeats itself in the aftertaste. Nice for a 9%'er, but not something I feel a need to stock up on.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 23/7/14

A clear ruby red liquid when held to the light, two fingers of tan foam has good retention and leaves lots of random polka dot lace

S lots of tropical citrus, pineapple, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, plenty of burnt brown sugar, some pine, just a hint of booze and spicy malt

T slightly more brown sugar, the spicy rye malt come out stronger then the nose, some lime, more rind then fresh fruit, tastes solid but the nose has a slight edge

M heavy side of medium, very bitter, some grit, faint heat, spicy rind lingers strong

O lots of hops and spicy malt works well for me, no real complaints and goes down easy for 9%

I'd buy this often but the 11$ price tag might be a little steep, definitely worth a try but I doubt I'll buy another at that price

Picked up a four pack from Total Wine in early July for $11.99. Bottling date is illegible. Web site says the availability window is May-August.

Beer poured a reddish brown with a nice off white head that left a nice ring trail.

Nose is full of citrus and hints of rye.

Taste is a caramel malt base that is quickly overrun by the 80 ibu of alpha hops used. Citrus, pine dominate with rye malt leaving its stamp in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly smooth.

Overall this is a pretty cool brew, can't remember seeing an imperial ipa with rye. Definitely get this if you like your rye bread and alpha hops!

Poured from 12oz bottle into my Schlafly tulip.

Appearance: rich amber brown hue with no haze and a light effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy ivory foam with a nice lace. Pretty attractive!

Smell: big, lemony hop aroma atop a sweetish malt base. There's a little hint of the rye in the aroma as well. Not especially complex, but enticing.

Taste: big caramel malt flavor with citrusy, earthy and slightly dank hops. Bitterness is pretty balanced. The flavors are good, but the whole thing is a bit muddled. Not bad, but a bit unrefined.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a very good creaminess for the style. I like it.

Overall: this is a tasty beer, although I feel it lacks finesse. A decent drinker, but I don't think I'll seek this out again.

Poured Road Warrior Imperial Rye into a Pint glass.

A - Pours a cloudy amber with a half finger of off white head.

S - On first sniff I'm getting citrus, grapefruit, pine. A little spicy rye in there as well.

T - Thank god. Fantastic flavors of grapefruit, citrus, rye, pine. Mid palate getting even more spicy rye with some dankness. Aftertaste is smooth pine needles and more rye. Delicious!

M - Smooth medium to low carbonation with medium to heavy mouthfeel.

O - I like Rye IPA's, and this one is top notch. Highly Recommended! Cheers!
