While developing the recipe for our White IPA, we lined up malted wheat and more than a dozen hop varieties to select the three hops with the most citrus character: Simcoe, Amarillo and El Dorado. A citrus hop explosion leaps from the glass with big tangerine aromas up front, while hop flavors of bitter orange zest dominate and linger to the finish.

This bottle was extremely old when j picked it up but decided to try it anyway. Hop bitterness was still quite prevalent. Belgian yeasty character and a clean crisp mouthfeel. Probably a stellar beer when it was fresh.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light gold color with a large foamy white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains citrus, floral hops, wheat and light caramelized malts.
T: The taste starts out with a strong grassy hops bitterness. Then some breadiness comes in from wheat and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The citrus flavors are strong but not too sweet and bring a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly hoppy.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, decent representation of sub-style, there are other White IPA’s that I would choose first.
