A - pours a hazy, copper/gold. Thick, chunky head fades fast, but leaves a thick collar and sheets of lacing. A bit more clarity would have been a perfect 5.
S - solid Cali hop profile, with huge citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon rind. Slight pine in there too. Some tropical fruit and breast aromas round things out, but the aroma is hops, hops, and more hops.
T - the palate follows the nose very closely. The hops are the main, overwhelming presence. The pine comes out a bit more on the palate, along with the citrus. Also, as in the nose, the fruitiness and bread struggle to come through, providing little balance.
M - Medium body. Medium-fine carbonation keeps it creamy. Long, dry finish.
D - As a hophead, I could finish a sixer of these without hesitation. Non-hopheads may have some difficulty.
More proof that some of the best IPAs in the world come from San Diego. If you're looking for balance, I'd look elsewhere, but if it's a phatty hop sandwich you're after, this is a damn fine choice.
